I have sent among you the pestilence after the manner of Miżrayim: your young men I have slain with the sword, and I have taken away your horses; and I have made the stench of your camp to come up to your nostrils: yet have you not returned to me, says the Lord.

with the captivity of your horses—For they slay the horses as well.
and I caused the stench of your camps to rise—The smell of your corpses would raise a stench, and I caused it to rise into your nostrils.
I have overthrown some of you, as God overthrew Sedom and ῾Amora, and you were as a brand plucked out of the burning: yet have you not returned to me, says the Lord.

like a brand Heb. כְּאוּד, tison in French, an ember; i.e, black and dark and burnt black.
Therefore thus will I do to thee, O Yisra᾽el: and because I will do this to thee, prepare to meet thy God, O Yisra᾽el.
Therefore thus will I do to thee, O Yisra᾽el: and because I will do this to thee, prepare to meet thy God, O Yisra᾽el.

Therefore—Since you did not return to Me.
because I will do this to you—as all these evils.
because—Since you hear from the mouth of My prophets that I will do this to you.
prepare to meet Me—to repent of your wickedness.
כִּי הִנֵּה יוֹצֵר הָרִים וּבֹרֵא רוּחַ וּמַגִּיד לְאָדָם מַה־שֵּׂחוֹ עֹשֵׂה שַׁחַר עֵיפָה וְדֹרֵךְ עַל־בָּמֳתֵי אָרֶץ יְהֹוָה אֱלֹהֵֽי־צְבָאוֹת שְׁמֽוֹ׃ {פ}
For, lo, he that forms the mountains, and creates the wind, and declares to man what is his thought, that makes the morning darkness, and treads upon the high places of the earth, The Lord, the God of hosts, is his name.

what his speech is—All his deeds are related in detail before him at the time of his death.
He makes dawn—for the righteous like a bright light.
darkness—He turns the brightness of the wicked into darkness. Cf. (Isa. 8:22) “And behold, distress and darkness, darkness (מְעוּף) of oppression.” Similarly, (Job 10:22) “Land of darkness (עֵפָתָה)”; (ibid. 11:17) “Darkness (תָּעֻפָה) shall be like morning.” Your darkness shall shine like the morning.
and treads upon the high places of the earth—He humbles the high and haughty.
after the manner of Egypt—Just as I sent upon you in the desert when you left Egypt.
