Adonoy said to Aharon: “You, your sons, and your father’s house with you will bear the sin of the Sanctuary, and you, and your sons with you will bear the sin of your kehunah.
Adonoy said to Aharon: “You, your sons, and your father’s house with you will bear the sin of the Sanctuary, and you, and your sons with you will bear the sin of your kehunah.
Rashi
You, your sons, and your father’s house. The children of Kehos, Amram’s father.
Will bear the sin of the Sanctuary. I am casting, upon you, the punishment of the unauthorized persons who sin by their involvement with the sacred objects placed in your charge — the Tent, Ark, Table, and sacred vessels. You must station yourselves and warn every unauthorized person who attempts contact.
And you and your sons. The kohanim.
Will bear the sin of your kehunah. Since it is not a charge given to the Levites, you must warn the erring Levites not to come in contact with you during your service.
Also, your brothers, the tribe of Levi—the tribe of your father—bring to you, and they shall join you, and serve you, you and your sons with you, before the Tent of Testimony.
Also, your brothers, the tribe of Levi—the tribe of your father—bring to you, and they shall join you, and serve you, you and your sons with you, before the Tent of Testimony.
Rashi
Also, your brothers. The sons of Gershon and the sons of Merori.
They shall join you. They shall unite with you in also warning the unauthorized persons not to approach them.
And serve you. By guarding the gateways, and through the appointment, from them, of custodians and administrators.
They shall guard their duties to you and all the duties of the Tent, but to the holy furniture or to the Altar they must not approach, that neither they, nor you, shall die.
They shall guard their duties to you and all the duties of the Tent, but to the holy furniture or to the Altar they must not approach, that neither they, nor you, shall die.
They shall join you and guard the duties of the Tent of Meeting—all the service of the Tent, but a commoner, [a non-kohein] should not approach you.
They shall join you and guard the duties of the Tent of Meeting—all the service of the Tent, but a commoner, [a non-kohein] should not approach you.
Rashi
A commonor should not approach you. I admonish you about this.
You shall discharge the sacred duties and the duties of the Altar, so that there will be no more wrath on Bnei Yisroel.
You shall discharge the sacred duties and the duties of the Altar, so that there will be no more wrath on Bnei Yisroel.
Rashi
So that there will be no more wrath. As there already was, as it is said, “for the wrath has surfaced.”
Behold, I have brought your brothers the Levites from among Bnei Yisroel, given to you as a gift—for Adonoy—to perform the work of the Tent of Meeting.
Behold, I have brought your brothers the Levites from among Bnei Yisroel, given to you as a gift—for Adonoy—to perform the work of the Tent of Meeting.
Rashi
Given to you as a gift. Perhaps for your personal, secular service? The Torah, therefore, teaches, “for God,” as specified above, to attend to the mandate — custodians and administrators.
וְאַתָּה וּבָנֶיךָ אִתְּךָ תִּשְׁמְרוּ אֶת־כְּהֻנַּתְכֶם לְכׇל־דְּבַר הַמִּזְבֵּחַ וּלְמִבֵּית לַפָּרֹכֶת וַעֲבַדְתֶּם עֲבֹדַת מַתָּנָה אֶתֵּן אֶת־כְּהֻנַּתְכֶם וְהַזָּר הַקָּרֵב יוּמָֽת׃ {פ}
You and your sons with you shall guard your kehunah [duties] regarding the Altar and all that is within the Curtain—you shall serve—the service, as a gift, I give the kehunah to you, and the commoner who approaches shall be killed.”
You and your sons with you shall guard your kehunah [duties] regarding the Altar and all that is within the Curtain—you shall serve—the service, as a gift, I give the kehunah to you, and the commoner who approaches shall be killed.”
Rashi
The service as a gift. I have given it to you as a gift.
Adonoy said to Aharon. He told Moshe to say to Aharon, To exhort him concerning [precautions] for the benefit of the Israelites, so that they do not enter the Sanctuary.
