וַיִּדְרֹשׁ יְחִזְקִיָּהוּ עַל־הַכֹּהֲנִים וְהַלְוִיִּם עַל־הָעֲרֵמֽוֹת׃

וַיֹּאמֶר אֵלָיו עֲזַרְיָהוּ הַכֹּהֵן הָרֹאשׁ לְבֵית צָדוֹק וַיֹּאמֶר מֵהָחֵל הַתְּרוּמָה לָבִיא בֵית־יְהֹוָה אָכוֹל וְשָׂבוֹעַ וְהוֹתֵר עַד־לָרוֹב כִּי יְהֹוָה בֵּרַךְ אֶת־עַמּוֹ וְהַנּוֹתָר אֶת־הֶהָמוֹן הַזֶּֽה׃ {ס}
And ῾Azaryahu the chief priest of the house of Żadoq answered him, and said, Since the people began to bring the offerings into the house of the Lord, we have had enough to eat, and have left plenty: for the Lord has blessed his people; and that which is left is this great store.

ויאמר אליו עזריהו. הוא היה בימי עוזיהו:
And Azariah...said to him He lived in the days of Uzziah.
מהחל התרומה לביא. אכלנו אכול ולא אכילת עראי אלא אכול ושבוע והותר ומה שאתה מתמה על שאכלנו ד' חדשים ואעפ"כ ערמותיהם כל כך גדולות זה הדבר כי ברך ה' את עמו ונתן להם תבואות הרבה לפיכך הרבה התרומות והמעשרות שלנו:
“From the beginning of bringing the heave-offering We have surely eaten, and not an incidental meal but we ate, were satisfied, and left over. Now what you are surprised about, that we ate four months, and nevertheless, their stacks are so large - this is because the Lord blessed His people and gave them abundant grains; therefore, they increased our heave-offerings and tithes.
והנותר. מן אכילתנו זה:
and what is left over from this eating of ours.
ההמון הזה. אשר אתה רואה ערמות ערמות:
is this abundance that you see: many stacks.
וידרש יחזקיהו. לפי שראה חזקיהו הערימות גדולות אמר בלבו שמא לא לקחו הכהני' והלוי' מהם ולא נגעו בהם שאם נגעו בהם איך נתרבו כל כך ותמה ודרש מהם על דבר הערימות על מה זה:
And Hezekiah demanded Since Hezekiah saw that the stacks were large, he said to himself, “Perhaps the priests and the Levites have not taken [their share] from them and have not touched them, for had they touched them, how could they be so large? Since he was puzzled, he questioned them concerning the stacks, “What is the reason for this?”
