וַיִּשְׁמַע סַנְבַלַּט הַחֹרֹנִי וְטֹבִיָּה ׀ הָעֶבֶד הָֽעַמּוֹנִי וְגֶשֶׁם הָֽעַרְבִי וַיַּלְעִגוּ לָנוּ וַיִּבְזוּ עָלֵינוּ וַיֹּאמְרוּ מָֽה־הַדָּבָר הַזֶּה אֲשֶׁר אַתֶּם עֹשִׂים הַעַל הַמֶּלֶךְ אַתֶּם מֹרְדִֽים׃
And Sanvalat the Choronite and Toviah the Ammonite slave and Geshem the Arab heard, and they mocked and scorned us, saying: What is this thing that you do? Would you rebel against the king!

העל המלך. אם על המלך אתם מורדים לבנות חומת העיר כדי למרוד בו:
are...against the king Are you rebelling against the king by building the wall of the city in order to rebel against him?
וָאָשִׁיב אוֹתָם דָּבָר וָאוֹמַר לָהֶם אֱלֹהֵי הַשָּׁמַיִם הוּא יַצְלִיחַֽ לָנוּ וַאֲנַחְנוּ עֲבָדָיו נָקוּם וּבָנִינוּ וְלָכֶם אֵֽין־חֵלֶק וּצְדָקָה וְזִכָּרוֹן בִּירוּשָׁלָֽ͏ִם׃ {פ}
And I rejoined: The G-d of heaven, He will prosper us, and we, His servants, will arise and build. As for you, [what business do you have with building the city wall]? You have no share or righteousness or remembrance in Jerusalem!

ולכם אין חלק. מה לכם בבנין חומת העיר הזאת כי אין לכם חלק בה:
but you have no share What do you have in the building of the wall of this city, for you have no share in it.
וילעיגו. כאשר שמעו הצרים שמועת בנין חומת העיר היו מלעיגים עלינו:
and they mocked When our adversaries heard the news of the building of the walls of the city, they mocked us.
