וַיֹּאמֶר שְׁמוּאֵל אֶל־כׇּל־בֵּית יִשְׂרָאֵל לֵאמֹר אִם־בְּכׇל־לְבַבְכֶם אַתֶּם שָׁבִים אֶל־יְהֹוָה הָסִירוּ אֶת־אֱלֹהֵי הַנֵּכָר מִתּוֹכְכֶם וְהָעַשְׁתָּרוֹת וְהָכִינוּ לְבַבְכֶם אֶל־יְהֹוָה וְעִבְדֻהוּ לְבַדּוֹ וְיַצֵּל אֶתְכֶם מִיַּד פְּלִשְׁתִּֽים׃
Shmuel spoke to the entire House of Yisroel, saying, "If with all your hearts, you are returning to Adonoy, remove the foreign gods from your midst, and the Ashtoros, and direct your hearts to Adonoy, and worship Him alone; then He will save you from the hand of the Philistines."

וַיָּסִירוּ בְּנֵי יִשְׂרָאֵל אֶת־הַבְּעָלִים וְאֶת־הָעַשְׁתָּרֹת וַיַּעַבְדוּ אֶת־יְהֹוָה לְבַדּֽוֹ׃ {פ}
