143:1

מִזְמוֹר לְדָוִד יְהֹוָה ׀ שְׁמַע תְּפִלָּתִי הַאֲזִינָה אֶל־תַּחֲנוּנַי בֶּאֱמֻנָתְךָ עֲנֵנִי בְּצִדְקָתֶֽךָ׃

A Psalm of David. Hear my prayer, O Lord, give ear to my supplications: in Thy faithfulness answer me, in thy righteousness.

Rashi

באמונתך. להאמין הבטחה שהבטחתני:

143:2

וְאַל־תָּבוֹא בְמִשְׁפָּט אֶת־עַבְדֶּךָ כִּי לֹֽא־יִצְדַּק לְפָנֶיךָ כׇל־חָֽי׃

And enter not into judgment with Thy servant: for in Thy sight shall no man living be justified.

143:3

כִּי רָדַף אוֹיֵב ׀ נַפְשִׁי דִּכָּא לָאָרֶץ חַיָּתִי הוֹשִׁבַנִי בְמַחֲשַׁכִּים כְּמֵתֵי עוֹלָֽם׃

For the enemy has persecuted my soul; he has trodden my life down to the ground; he has made me to dwell in darkness, as those that have been long dead.

Rashi

כי רדף אויב נפשי. כלומר אם חטאתי לך הרי לקיתי וכנגד כל ישראל נאמר מזמור זה:

143:4

וַתִּתְעַטֵּף עָלַי רוּחִי בְּתוֹכִי יִשְׁתּוֹמֵם לִבִּֽי׃

Therefore my spirit faints within me; my heart within me is appalled.

Rashi

ישתומם. לשון אוטם ותמהון כמו ואשב שם שבעת ימים משמים בתוכם (יחזקאל ג׳:ט״ו) ותשב תמר ושוממה (שמואל ב י״ג:כ׳):

143:5

זָכַרְתִּי יָמִים ׀ מִקֶּדֶם הָגִיתִי בְכׇל־פׇּעֳלֶךָ בְּֽמַעֲשֵׂה יָדֶיךָ אֲשׂוֹחֵֽחַ׃

I remember the days of old; I meditate on all Thy works; I muse on the work of Thy hands.

Rashi

זכרתי ימים מקדם. שהפלית לנו נסים רבי':

143:6

פֵּרַשְׂתִּי יָדַי אֵלֶיךָ נַפְשִׁי ׀ כְּאֶרֶץ־עֲיֵפָה לְךָ סֶֽלָה׃

I stretch forth my hands to Thee: my soul thirsts after Thee, like a thirsty land. (Sela.)

כארץ עיפה. בגולה:

143:7

מַהֵר עֲנֵנִי ׀ יְהֹוָה כָּלְתָה רוּחִי אַל־תַּסְתֵּר פָּנֶיךָ מִמֶּנִּי וְנִמְשַׁלְתִּי עִם־יֹרְדֵי בֽוֹר׃

Answer me speedily, O Lord: my spirit fails: do not hide Thy face from me, lest I be like those who go down into the pit.

Rashi

כלתה רוחי. המתאוה ואינו משיג קרוי כליון עינים וכליון רוח:

143:8

הַשְׁמִיעֵנִי בַבֹּקֶר ׀ חַסְדֶּךָ כִּֽי־בְךָ בָטָחְתִּי הוֹדִיעֵנִי דֶּרֶךְ־זוּ אֵלֵךְ כִּי־אֵלֶיךָ נָשָׂאתִי נַפְשִֽׁי׃

Cause me to hear Thy words of steadfast love in the morning; for in Thee do I trust: cause me to know the way in which I should walk; for I lift up my soul to Thee.

בבקר. בצמוח הגאולה (מצאתי):

הודיעני דרך זו. נשאתי נפשי אליך שתקבל שאלתי (סא"א):

143:9

הַצִּילֵנִי מֵאֹיְבַי ׀ יְהֹוָה אֵלֶיךָ כִסִּֽתִי׃

Deliver me, O Lord, from my enemies: I flee to Thee to hide me.

Rashi

אליך כסיתי. תלאותי אני מכסה מכל אדם להגידם אליך:

143:10

לַמְּדֵנִי ׀ לַעֲשׂוֹת רְצוֹנֶךָ כִּֽי־אַתָּה אֱלוֹהָי רוּחֲךָ טוֹבָה תַּנְחֵנִי בְּאֶרֶץ מִישֽׁוֹר׃

Teach me to do Thy will; for Thou art my God: let Thy good spirit lead me into a level land.

143:11

לְמַעַן־שִׁמְךָ יְהֹוָה תְּחַיֵּנִי בְּצִדְקָתְךָ ׀ תּוֹצִיא מִצָּרָה נַפְשִֽׁי׃

Revive me, O Lord, for Thy name’s sake: for Thy righteousness’ sake bring my soul out of trouble.

143:12

וּֽבְחַסְדְּךָ תַּצְמִית אֹיְבָי וְֽהַאֲבַדְתָּ כׇּל־צֹרְרֵי נַפְשִׁי כִּי אֲנִי עַבְדֶּֽךָ׃ {פ}

And in Thy mercy cut off my enemies, and destroy all those who afflict my soul: for I am Thy servant.
