MISHNAH: Rebbi Dosa ben Hyrkanos said, the reader29Who leads the congregation in prayer and has to mention the holiday. The Sages reject conditional prayers and therefore hold that the New Moon should not be mentioned in the prayers of New Year’s day. on New Year’s Day says “save us, Eternal, our God, on this Day of the New Moon, whether it be today or tomorrow.” The next day he says, “whether it be today or was yesterday”; but the Sages did not agree with him.

HALAKHAH: Paragraph: “Rebbi Dosa ben Hyrkanos said, the reader29Who leads the congregation in prayer and has to mention the holiday. The Sages reject conditional prayers and therefore hold that the New Moon should not be mentioned in the prayers of New Year’s day.”, etc. Because200The Sages might disagree with R. Dosa because one does not formulate prayers intimating that the day might not be holy and holiday prayers inappropriate. he says “whether it be today or tomorrow.” Or it comes following what Rebbi Jacob the son of Rebbi Aḥa said, the reader29Who leads the congregation in prayer and has to mention the holiday. The Sages reject conditional prayers and therefore hold that the New Moon should not be mentioned in the prayers of New Year’s day. on New Year’s Day does not have to mention the New Moon201In the musaf prayer of the holiday the fact that it is a Day of New Moon is mentioned only indirectly in the quote of Num. 10:10 (Babli 40b; Ševuˋot 1:5 Note 156).. Also here it is so.
