משנה: אֵין מוֹדְדִין אֶלָּא מִן הַמּוּמְחֶה. רִיבָּה לְמָקוֹם אֶחָד וּמִיעֵט לְמָקוֹם אַחֵר שׁוֹמְעִים לַמַּרִבֶּה. אֲפִילּוּ עֶבֶד אֲפִילּוּ שִׁפְחָה נֶאֱמָנִין לוֹמַר עַד כָּאן תְּחוּם שַׁבָּת שֶׁלֹּא אָמְרוּ חֲכָמִים בַּדָּבָר לְהַחְמִיר אֶלָּא לְהָקֵל:
MISHNAH: Surveys may only be made by professionals. If one extended the place and restricted it at another, one listens to him who extends11If the town has a traditional Sabbath boundary and a professional geometer tells them that at a certain place the actual boundary is farther away, one listens to the expert. The Yerushalmi does not express an opinion about what to do if the experts determine that the original border is too far away.. Even a slave or a slave woman are trustworthy to say up to here is the Sabbath domain since the Sages said in these matters not to restrict but to be lenient12Since Sabbath boundaries are rabbinic institutions only..

Rebbi Mana asked, it is accepted that 2’000 cubits is not clear. Are 4’000 cubits not clear? Rebbi Simeon bar Carsana in the name of Rebbi Aḥa: The only clear case among all of them is the domain of twelve mil of the camp of Israel.
