MISHNAH: If it became impure whole or most of it, one burns it before the citadel on altar wood. If a minor part became impure or leftovers220aWhat was not eaten by midnight (Mishnah 10:) one burns in the courtyards or on their roofs on their own wood. The misers burn it before the citadel in order to profit from altar wood.

HALAKHAH: Rebbi Ḥama bar Uqba in the name of Rebbi Yose ben Ḥanina: To publicize him, to make it known that he spoiled it221Babli 81b.. If he said, I am going to burn it before the citadel on my own wood, one does not listen to him; it is not necessary to note that if he says, I will burn it on my roof on my own wood that one does not listen to him222Here it refers to the Mishnah here; but the statement in Tosephta 3:13 that before the citadel one may not use private wood refers to Mishnah 3:8 (Note 150), and emphasizes that before the citadel one never uses any but altar wood..

Rebbi Jeremiah in the name of Rebbi Hila: To inform the next in line that he is a miser. You should know that nowhere else is he called miser, but here you are calling him miser223This now refers to the end of the Mishnah. In Mishnah 3:8, where people burn disqualified private sacral meat before the citadel on altar wood, they are not called miser.. They made it easy for the guest224Babli 82a. Most people in Jerusalem at holiday time are guests, without their own supply of fire wood..
