וַיְהִי דְּבַר־יְהֹוָה צְבָאוֹת לֵאמֹֽר׃
And the word of the Lord of hosts came to me, saying,

Thus says the Lord of hosts; I was zealous for Żiyyon with great zeal, and I was zealous for her with a great fury.

כֹּה אָמַר יְהֹוָה שַׁבְתִּי אֶל־צִיּוֹן וְשָׁכַנְתִּי בְּתוֹךְ יְרֽוּשָׁלָ͏ִם וְנִקְרְאָה יְרוּשָׁלַ͏ִם עִיר הָֽאֱמֶת וְהַר־יְהֹוָה צְבָאוֹת הַר הַקֹּֽדֶשׁ׃
Thus says the Lord; I have returned to Żiyyon, and will dwell in the midst of Yerushalayim: and Yerushalayim shall be called The city of truth; and the mountain of the Lord of hosts, The holy mountain.

כֹּה אָמַר יְהֹוָה צְבָאוֹת עֹד יֵֽשְׁבוּ זְקֵנִים וּזְקֵנוֹת בִּרְחֹבוֹת יְרוּשָׁלָ͏ִם וְאִישׁ מִשְׁעַנְתּוֹ בְּיָדוֹ מֵרֹב יָמִֽים׃
Thus says the Lord of hosts; Old men and old women shall yet again dwell in the streets of Yerushalayim, and every man with his staff in his hand for very age.

מרוב ימים. יהיו צריכים למשענת בידם:
because of old age they will require the staff in their hand.
וּרְחֹבוֹת הָעִיר יִמָּלְאוּ יְלָדִים וִֽילָדוֹת מְשַׂחֲקִים בִּרְחֹֽבֹתֶֽיהָ׃ {פ}
And the streets of the city shall be full of boys and girls playing in its streets.

קנאתי לה. בשבילה ולא תזקקו לצום ולספוד וכן סוף הענין צום החמישי וגומר:
I am jealous for her For [not ‘to’] her. And you will not need to fast and to mourn. And so is the end of the chapter: “The fast of the fifth month, etc.”
