Then Nevuchadnezzar the king was astonished, and rose up in haste, and spoke, and said to his counselors: Did we not cast three men bound into the midst of the fire? They answered and said to the king: True, O king.

He answered and said: Lo, I see [(from afar)] four men unbound, walking in the midst of the fire, and they have no hurt; and the appearance of the fourth is like an angel [(that I saw smiting Sancherev's host [viz. Isaiah 37:36)]

Then Nevuchadnezzar came near to the gate [of the court] of the burning fiery furnace and spoke, and said: Shadrach, Meshach, and Aved-nego, servants of the most high G-d, come out and come here. Then [(not having come out before receiving the royal bidding)], Shadrach, Meshach, and Aved-nego came out of the midst of the fire.

And the satraps, the prefects, the governors, and the king's counselors, being gathered together [(viz. 3 above. Four are missing here — the four who were killed by the fire [viz. 22])], saw these men, upon whose bodies the fire had no power; nor was a hair of their head singed; nor were their mantles damaged; nor had the smell of the fire entered them.

Then Nevuchadnezzar called out and said: Blessed be the G-d of Shadrach, Meshach, and Aved-nego, who has sent His angel, and delivered His servants who trusted in Him, turning aside the king's command, and yielding their bodies, that they might not serve or bow down to any god, except their own G-d.

Therefore, I let it be decreed that every people, nation, and tongue that speaks anything amiss against the G-d of Shadrach, Meshach, and Aved-nego shall be cut in pieces, and their houses shall be made a dunghill; because there is no other god that can deliver after this sort.

Then the king promoted Shadrach, Meshach, and Aved-nego in the province of Bavel.
