בעת ההיא בראות דויד כי ענהו ה'. פרשה זו לא נכתבה בשמואל ומשום כבוד דוד נכתבה כאן שעשה מזבח וכל פסוקי דפרשה זו דבוק פסוק אל פסוק כאילו כולו פסוק א':
וּמִשְׁכַּן יְהֹוָה אֲשֶׁר־עָשָׂה מֹשֶׁה בַמִּדְבָּר וּמִזְבַּח הָעוֹלָה בָּעֵת הַהִיא בַּבָּמָה בְּגִבְעֽוֹן׃

ומזבח העולה. של משה עדיין בעת ההיא בבמה אשר בגבעון:
וְלֹא־יָכֹל דָּוִיד לָלֶכֶת לְפָנָיו לִדְרֹשׁ אֱלֹהִים כִּי נִבְעַת מִפְּנֵי חֶרֶב מַלְאַךְ יְהֹוָֽה׃ {ס}

כי נבעת מפני חרב מלאך ה'. והלך דוד כדברי ה' ובנה מזבח וענהו ה':
ויאמר ה' למלאך. להשיב חרבו וישב חרבו אל נדנה וכן ויאמר ה', לדג ויקא את יונה וגו':
