שַׂר הַצָּבָא הַשְּׁלִישִׁי לַחֹדֶשׁ הַשְּׁלִישִׁי בְּנָיָהוּ בֶן־יְהוֹיָדָע הַכֹּהֵן רֹאשׁ וְעַל מַחֲלֻקְתּוֹ עֶשְׂרִים וְאַרְבָּעָה אָֽלֶף׃
The third captain of the host for the third month was Benayahu the son of Yehoyada, a chief priest: and in his division were twenty four thousand.

הכהן ראש. שהיה ראש וי"א שהיה כהן גדול ואינו כן שהרי צדוק ואביתר היו כהנים גדולים:
הוּא בְנָיָהוּ גִּבּוֹר הַשְּׁלֹשִׁים וְעַל־הַשְּׁלֹשִׁים וּמַחֲלֻקְתּוֹ עַמִּיזָבָד בְּנֽוֹ׃ {ס}

שר הצבא השלישי. משום כבוד בניהו קורהו שר הצבא יותר מהשאר לבד מישבעם שהיה מבני פרץ שקורהו כמו כן ראש דכתיב הראש לכל שרי הצבאות מפני כבודו של דוד שהיה מבני פרץ כמוהו:
