וּבְנֵי אֵשֶׁת הֽוֹדִיָּה אֲחוֹת נַחַם אֲבִי קְעִילָה הַגַּרְמִי וְאֶשְׁתְּמֹעַ הַמַּעֲכָתִֽי׃
And the sons of the wife of Hodiyya the sister of Naĥam, the father of Qe῾ila the Garmite, and Eshtemoa the Ma῾akhatite.

וּבְנֵי שִׁימוֹן אַמְנוֹן וְרִנָּה בֶּן־חָנָן (ותולון) [וְתִילוֹן] וּבְנֵי יִשְׁעִי זוֹחֵת וּבֶן־זוֹחֵֽת׃
And the sons of Shimon were, Amnon, and Rinna, Ben-ĥanan, and Tilon. And the sons of Yish῾i were, Zoĥet, and Ben-zoĥet.

בְּנֵי שֵׁלָה בֶן־יְהוּדָה עֵר אֲבִי לֵכָה וְלַעְדָּה אֲבִי מָרֵשָׁה וּמִשְׁפְּחוֹת בֵּית־עֲבֹדַת הַבֻּץ לְבֵית אַשְׁבֵּֽעַ׃
The sons of Shela the son of Yehuda were, ῾Er the father of Lekha, and La῾ada the father of Maresha, and the families of the house of the linen workers, of the house of Ashbea,

ומשפחת בית עבודת הבוץ. ליריעות המקדש אף הם היו מבני שלה:
וְיוֹקִים וְאַנְשֵׁי כֹזֵבָא וְיוֹאָשׁ וְשָׂרָף אֲשֶׁר־בָּעֲלוּ לְמוֹאָב וְיָשֻׁבִי לָחֶם וְהַדְּבָרִים עַתִּיקִֽים׃

ויוקים ואנשי כזבא. עד וישבי לחם כל אלה בני שלה בן יהודה:
ויואש ושרף. רבותינו אומרים זה מחלון וכליון:
והדברים עתיקים. פתרון אל תאמר לפי שהתחלתי לייחס מאנשי דורינו שכולם היו אחרי כן אלא כולן שנאמרו בפסוק זה (העתיקים) הראשונים שהיו בימי קדמונים:
אשר בעלו למואב. שלקחו נשים מואביות:
הֵמָּה הַיּוֹצְרִים וְיֹשְׁבֵי נְטָעִים וּגְדֵרָה עִם־הַמֶּלֶךְ בִּמְלַאכְתּוֹ יָשְׁבוּ שָֽׁם׃ {ס}

המה היוצרים. המה יוקים ואנשי כזבא וישבי לחם היו יוצרי חומר למלאכת המלך וגם קדרות למאכל המלך וגם לכהנים:
ויושבי נטעים. שהיו עוסקים בנטיעות של מלך:
וגדרה. אומנים גודרי גדר אבנים למלאכת המלך:
עם המלך. פתרון הושיבן המלך באותן העיירות לפי שהיו עושים מלאכתו דוגמא במשפטים בשואל בעליו עמו לא ישלם כלומר עמו במלאכתו:
בני שלה בן יהודה. לפי שעדיין לא יחסו מיחסו עתה שמשום כבודו של דוד מקדים ליחס בני תמר פרץ וזרח שמהם יצא גם הוא ועכשיו שייחס כל משפחות פרץ מתחיל לייחס כל משפחות שלה שהיו באותו הדור:
