וַיָּקֻמוּ אֲנָשִׁים מֵרָאשֵׁי בְנֵי־אֶפְרַיִם עֲזַרְיָהוּ בֶן־יְהֽוֹחָנָן בֶּרֶכְיָהוּ בֶן־מְשִׁלֵּמוֹת וִֽיחִזְקִיָּהוּ בֶּן־שַׁלֻּם וַעֲמָשָׂא בֶּן־חַדְלָי עַל־הַבָּאִים מִן־הַצָּבָֽא׃
Then certain of the heads of the children of Efrayim, ῾Azaryahu the son of Yehoĥanan, Berekhyahu the son of Meshillemot, and Yeĥizqiyyahu the son of Shallum, and ῾Amasa the son of Ḥadlay, stood up against those who came from the war.

וַיֹּאמְרוּ לָהֶם לֹֽא־תָבִיאוּ אֶת־הַשִּׁבְיָה הֵנָּה כִּי לְאַשְׁמַת יְהֹוָה עָלֵינוּ אַתֶּם אֹֽמְרִים לְהֹסִיף עַל־חַטֹּאתֵנוּ וְעַל־אַשְׁמָתֵנוּ כִּֽי־רַבָּה אַשְׁמָה לָנוּ וַחֲרוֹן אָף עַל־יִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃ {ס}
And they said to them, You shall not bring in the captives here: for whereas we have offended against the Lord already, you intend to add more to our sins and to our guilt: for our trespass is great, and there is fierce wrath against Yisra᾽el.
