אָז הֶעֱלָה שְׁלֹמֹה עֹלוֹת לַֽיהֹוָה עַל מִזְבַּח יְהֹוָה אֲשֶׁר בָּנָה לִפְנֵי הָאוּלָֽם׃

וְלֹא סָרוּ מִצְוַת הַמֶּלֶךְ עַל־הַכֹּהֲנִים וְהַלְוִיִּם לְכׇל־דָּבָר וְלָאֹצָרֽוֹת׃

עד היום מוסד בית. מיום הוסדו עד כלותו:

על מזבח ה'. זה מזבח הנחשת שבנה שלמה וי"מ מזבח הנחשת שעשה שלמה תחת מזבח הנחשת שבנה משה ותימה בדבר שהרי כתיב (מלכים ב' י"ז) ואת עולת כל עם וכל דם עולה וגו' יהיה לבקר כלומר מזבח הנחשת שהיה שם קודם לכן יהיה לי לבקר מכלל שהמזבח היה של נחושת:
on the altar of the Lord This was the copper altar that Solomon built. Some explain that this was the copper altar that Solomon made instead of the copper altar that Moses built, but this is astounding, because it is written (II Kings 16:15): “and the burnt offerings of the entire people of the land, etc. and the blood of every burnt offering, etc. shall be for me to visit,” i.e., the copper altar, which was there heretofore, shall be for me to visit. This proves that Moses’ copper altar was still there.
