19:1

וַיַּעַן אִיּוֹב וַיֹּאמַֽר׃

Then Iyyov answered and said,

19:2

עַד־אָנָה תּוֹגְיוּן נַפְשִׁי וּֽתְדַכּאוּנַנִי בְמִלִּֽים׃

How long will you vex my soul, and break me in pieces with words?

Rashi

(מענה איוב):
תוגיון. ל' תוגה:

19:3

זֶה עֶשֶׂר פְּעָמִים תַּכְלִימוּנִי לֹֽא־תֵבֹשׁוּ תַּהְכְּרוּ־לִֽי׃

These ten times have you reproached me: you are not ashamed that you slight me.

Rashi

עשר פעמים. עשר פרשיות יש עד כאן:

תהכרו לי. תתנכרו לי:

19:4

וְאַף־אׇמְנָם שָׁגִיתִי אִתִּי תָּלִין מְשׁוּגָתִֽי׃

And be it indeed that I have erred, my error remains with myself.

Rashi

אתי תלין. אני הוא הלוקח מכות על משוגתי:

19:5

אִם־אׇמְנָם עָלַי תַּגְדִּילוּ וְתוֹכִיחוּ עָלַי חֶרְפָּתִֽי׃

If indeed you will magnify yourselves against me, and plead against me my reproach:

Rashi

אם אמנם. אתם נוספים עלי לצרתי ותוכיחו עלי חרפתי מראים ומוכיחים חרפתי על פני:

19:6

דְּֽעוּ־אֵפוֹ כִּֽי־אֱלוֹהַּ עִוְּתָנִי וּמְצוּדוֹ עָלַי הִקִּֽיף׃

know now that God has overthrown me, and has compassed me with his net.

19:7

הֵן אֶצְעַק חָמָס וְלֹא אֵעָנֶה אֲשַׁוַּע וְאֵין מִשְׁפָּֽט׃

Behold, I cry out, Violence, but I am not heard: I cry aloud, but there is no justice.

Rashi

אצעק. על חמס ולא אענה:

19:8

אׇרְחִי גָדַר וְלֹא אֶעֱבוֹר וְעַל נְתִיבוֹתַי חֹשֶׁךְ יָשִֽׂים׃

He has fenced up my way so that I cannot pass, and he has set darkness in my paths.

19:9

כְּבוֹדִי מֵעָלַי הִפְשִׁיט וַיָּסַר עֲטֶרֶת רֹאשִֽׁי׃

He has stripped me of my glory, and taken the crown from my head.

19:10

יִתְּצֵנִי סָבִיב וָאֵלַךְ וַיַּסַּע כָּעֵץ תִּקְוָתִֽי׃

He has destroyed me on every side, and I am gone: and my hope he has uprooted like a tree.

Rashi

ויסע. לשון עקירה:

19:11

וַיַּחַר עָלַי אַפּוֹ וַיַּחְשְׁבֵנִי לוֹ כְצָרָֽיו׃

He has also kindled his wrath against me, and he counts me to him as one of his enemies.

19:12

יַחַד ׀ יָבֹאוּ גְדוּדָיו וַיָּסֹלּוּ עָלַי דַּרְכָּם וַיַּחֲנוּ סָבִיב לְאׇהֳלִֽי׃

His troops come together, and raise up their way against me, and encamp round about my tent.

Rashi

ויסולו. לשון מסילה:

19:13

אַחַי מֵעָלַי הִרְחִיק וְיֹדְעַי אַךְ־זָרוּ מִמֶּֽנִּי׃

He has put my brethren far from me, and my acquaintances are wholly estranged from me.

Rashi

אך זרו. ל' אכזר:

19:14

חָדְלוּ קְרוֹבָי וּֽמְיֻדָּעַי שְׁכֵחֽוּנִי׃

My kinsfolk have failed, and my familiar friends have forgotten me.

19:15

גָּרֵי בֵיתִי וְאַמְהֹתַי לְזָר תַּחְשְׁבֻנִי נׇכְרִי הָיִיתִי בְעֵינֵיהֶֽם׃

They who dwell in my house, and my womenservants, count me for a stranger: I am an alien in their sight.

19:16

לְעַבְדִּי קָרָאתִי וְלֹא יַעֲנֶה בְּמוֹ־פִי אֶתְחַנֶּן־לֽוֹ׃

I call my servant, and he gives me no answer; though I entreat him with my mouth.

19:17

רוּחִי זָרָה לְאִשְׁתִּי וְחַנֹּתִי לִבְנֵי בִטְנִֽי׃

My breath is repulsive to my wife, and my cries to my own children.

Rashi

לבני בטני. לאותם שגדלתי בביתי כאלו הם בני:

19:18

גַּם־עֲוִילִים מָאֲסוּ בִי אָקוּמָה וַיְדַבְּרוּ־בִֽי׃

Yea, young children despise me; I arise, and they speak against me.

Rashi

עוילים מאסו בי. נבזה אני בעיני נערים וכ"ש בעיני שרים:

19:19

תִּעֲבוּנִי כׇּל־מְתֵי סוֹדִי וְזֶה־אָהַבְתִּי נֶהְפְּכוּ־בִֽי׃

All my trusted friends abhor me: and they whom I love are turned against me.

19:20

בְּעוֹרִי וּבִבְשָׂרִי דָּבְקָה עַצְמִי וָאֶתְמַלְּטָה בְּעוֹר שִׁנָּֽי׃

My bone cleaves to my skin and to my flesh, and I am escaped with the skin of my teeth.

Rashi

דבקה עצמי. שאני כחוש מעובי בשרי:

בעור שיני. כל בשרי היה לקוי בשחין ובתולעים חוץ מחניכי שיניו:

19:21

חׇנֻּנִי חׇנֻּנִי אַתֶּם רֵעָי כִּי יַד־אֱלוֹהַּ נָגְעָה בִּֽי׃

Have pity upon me, have pity upon me, O my friends; for the hand of God has touched me.

19:22

לָמָּה תִּרְדְּפֻנִי כְמוֹ־אֵל וּמִבְּשָׂרִי לֹא תִשְׂבָּֽעוּ׃

Why do you, like God, persecute me, and are not satisfied with my flesh?

19:23

מִי־יִתֵּן אֵפוֹ וְיִכָּתְבוּן מִלָּי מִי־יִתֵּן בַּסֵּפֶר וְיֻחָֽקוּ׃

Oh that my words were now written! oh that they were inscribed in a book!

19:24

בְּעֵט־בַּרְזֶל וְעֹפָרֶת לָעַד בַּצּוּר יֵחָצְבֽוּן׃

that with an iron pen and lead they were engraved in the rock for ever!

Rashi

בעט ברזל. יחצבון בצור ואח"כ מעבירין את העופרת עליהם לתת לאותיות מראה שחרורית להכירם וכן דרך חוקק אבן ולא יתכן לפרש עט של עופרת שהרי רך הוא אצל האבן:

19:25

וַאֲנִי יָדַעְתִּי גֹּאֲלִי חָי וְאַחֲרוֹן עַל־עָפָר יָקֽוּם׃

For I know that my avenger lives, and that he who outlives all things, will rise when I shall be dust.

Rashi

ואני ידעתי גואלי חי. וא"ו זה חוזר למעלה אתם תרדפוני ואני ידעתי גואלי חי ליפרע והוא יתקיים ויעמוד:

ואחרון על עפר יקום. לאחר שיכלו כל שוכני עפר הוא אחרון יעמוד:

יקום. יתקיים:

19:26

וְאַחַר עוֹרִי נִקְּפוּ־זֹאת וּמִבְּשָׂרִי אֶחֱזֶה אֱלֽוֹהַּ׃

But whilst I am still in my flesh, though it be after my skin is torn from my body, I would see God:

Rashi

ואחר עורי נקפו זאת. והם אינם נותנים לב לגואלי אלא אחר מכת עורי נקפו ונקרו הקניטה והרדיפה הזאת שאמרתי שהיא לי כנוקף וחותך בעורי כמו (ישעיהו י׳:ל״ד) ונקף סבכי היער:

ומבשרי. אני רואה משפטים:

אלוה. ל' משפט ויסורין:

19:27

אֲשֶׁר אֲנִי ׀ אֶחֱזֶה־לִּי וְעֵינַי רָאוּ וְלֹא־זָר כָּלוּ כִלְיֹתַי בְּחֵקִֽי׃

that I might see him for myself: that my eyes might behold, and not another: in longing for that my reins are consumed within me.

19:28

כִּי תֹאמְרוּ מַה־נִּרְדׇּף־לוֹ וְשֹׁרֶשׁ דָּבָר נִמְצָא־בִֽי׃

And if you should say, Do we indeed persecute him? and is not the root of the matter found in me?

Rashi

כי תאמרו מה נרדף לו. כמו (דברים ז׳:י״ז) כי תאמר בלבבך שהוא משמש לשון דילמא כלומר ושתהיו נותנים לבכם לחמול ולומר למה נרדפנו:

ושרש דבר. הנמצא בו מה היא לעולם לא תעלה בלבבכם הטובה הזאת שרש דבר על מה הוא עומד:

19:29

גּוּרוּ לָכֶם ׀ מִפְּנֵי־חֶרֶב כִּֽי־חֵמָה עֲוֺנוֹת חָרֶב לְמַעַן תֵּדְעוּן (שדין) [שַׁדּֽוּן]׃ {פ}

be afraid of the sword: for wrath brings the punishments of the sword, that you may know that there is judgment.

Rashi

כי חמה. שאתם מגדילים עון המביא לידי חרב:

למען תדעון. ותבינו סוד הפורענות הבא על הרשעים ויש אם למסורת שדין כתיב כמו שיש דין בעולם כמו (שופטים ה׳:ז׳) שקמתי דבורה כן ראיתי בתנחומא:
