וַיַּעַן בִּלְדַּד הַשֻּׁחִי וַיֹּאמַֽר׃
Then answered Bildad the Shuĥite, and said,

הַמְשֵׁל וָפַחַד עִמּוֹ עֹשֶׂה שָׁלוֹם בִּמְרוֹמָֽיו׃
Dominion and fear are with him, he makes peace in his high places.

עושה שלום במרומיו. כשהמזלות עולים כל א' סובר אני עולה ראשון לפי שאינו רואה מה שלפניו לפיכך אינו מתקנא, כ"ש, ל"א עושה שלום במרומיו אש ומים בלולין ואין מים מכבין את האש, כ"ש:
הֲיֵשׁ מִסְפָּר לִגְדוּדָיו וְעַל־מִי לֹא־יָקוּם אוֹרֵֽהוּ׃
Is there any number to his armies? and upon whom does not his light arise?

וּמַה־יִּצְדַּק אֱנוֹשׁ עִם־אֵל וּמַה־יִּזְכֶּה יְלוּד אִשָּֽׁה׃
How then can man be justified with God? or how can he be clean that is born of a woman?

ומה יצדק וגו'. ילוד אשה שאמרת בחנני כזהב אצא (לעיל כג):
הֵן עַד־יָרֵחַ וְלֹא יַאֲהִיל וְכוֹכָבִים לֹא־זַכּוּ בְעֵינָֽיו׃
Behold even the moon has no brightness; and the stars are not pure in his sight.

עד ירח. כמו ולא עדה עליו שחל (לקמן כח):
ולא יאהיל. כמו לא יהלו אורם (ישעיהו י״ג:י׳) ואל"ף זו באה כמו ולאדיב את נפשך (שמואל א ב׳:ל״ג) אל"ף יתירה, ל"א לא יאהיל לא יהיה לו צל כשאינו מאיר אין לו צל והראשון נראה ושניהם שמעתי:
אַף כִּֽי־אֱנוֹשׁ רִמָּה וּבֶן־אָדָם תּוֹלֵעָֽה׃ {פ}
How much less man, that is a worm? and the son of man, who is a maggot?
