וַיַּעַן יוֹנָדָב ׀ בֶּן־שִׁמְעָה אֲחִי־דָוִד וַיֹּאמֶר אַל־יֹאמַר אֲדֹנִי אֵת כׇּל־הַנְּעָרִים בְּנֵֽי־הַמֶּלֶךְ הֵמִיתוּ כִּֽי־אַמְנוֹן לְבַדּוֹ מֵת כִּֽי־עַל־פִּי אַבְשָׁלוֹם הָיְתָה שׂוּמָה מִיּוֹם עַנֹּתוֹ אֵת תָּמָר אֲחֹתֽוֹ׃
Yonodov replied, he was the son of Shimoh [who was] Dovid's brother and said, "My master, do not say that all the young men, the sons of the king were killed because only Amnon died. Because this has been Avsholom's order from the day he [Amnon] raped his sister, Tomor.

וְעַתָּה אַל־יָשֵׂם אֲדֹנִי הַמֶּלֶךְ אֶל־לִבּוֹ דָּבָר לֵאמֹר כׇּל־בְּנֵי הַמֶּלֶךְ מֵתוּ כִּֽי־(אם)־אַמְנוֹן לְבַדּוֹ מֵֽת׃ {פ}
And now, Let not my master, the king take this thing to his heart saying, 'All the king's sons died,' for only Amnon died."

על פי אבשלום היתה שומה. בציויו של אבשלום היתה שימה זו נישומת על עבדיו, להרוג את אמנון:
This has been Avsholom's order. By Avsholom's command was this order bestowed on his servants to kill Amnon.
