וַיָּקׇם דָּוִד בַּבֹּקֶר {פ}

"Go tell Dovid that thus Adonoy has said, 'I will afflict you with [one of] three [things], choose one of them and I will do it to you'."

Rashi

I will afflict you with [one of] three [things]. One of three and so [we find], "With two [of my daughters] you will marry [into my family] today",18Shmuel I, 18:21. i.e., with one of two. "I will take three from you" is retribution for the three [curses] you put on Shaul, "Either Adonoy will smite him or his day will come and he will die or he will go down to battle and perish."19Ibid, 26:10.

24:13

וַיָּבֹא־גָד אֶל־דָּוִד וַיַּגֶּד־לוֹ וַיֹּאמֶר לוֹ הֲתָבוֹא לְךָ שֶׁבַע־שָׁנִים ׀ רָעָב ׀ בְּאַרְצֶךָ אִם־שְׁלֹשָׁה חֳדָשִׁים נֻסְךָ לִפְנֵי־צָרֶיךָ וְהוּא רֹדְפֶךָ וְאִם־הֱיוֹת שְׁלֹשֶׁת יָמִים דֶּבֶר בְּאַרְצֶךָ עַתָּה דַּע וּרְאֵה מָה־אָשִׁיב שֹׁלְחִי דָּבָֽר׃ {ס}

Gad came to Dovid and told him. He said to him, "Do you want seven years of famine to come in your land or to flee from your enemy for three months and he will pursue you or to have three days of pestilence in your land? Now, think clearly what I should answer to the [One] who has sent me with this message,"
