לְדָוִד ׀ בָּרוּךְ יְהֹוָה ׀ צוּרִי הַֽמְלַמֵּד יָדַי לַקְרָב אֶצְבְּעוֹתַי לַמִּלְחָמָֽה׃
Of David. Blessed be the Lord my rock, who teaches my hands to war, and my fingers to fight:

חַסְדִּי וּמְצוּדָתִי מִשְׂגַּבִּי וּֽמְפַלְטִי־לִי מָגִנִּי וּבוֹ חָסִיתִי הָרוֹדֵד עַמִּי תַחְתָּֽי׃

מה אדם. מה פרס וישמעאל לפניך כי ידעתם להרבות להם גדולה:
אָדָם לַהֶבֶל דָּמָה יָמָיו כְּצֵל עוֹבֵֽר׃

ימיו כצל עובר. שלמה אמר ויעשם כצל (קהלת ו׳ י״ב) ולא פירש אם צל דקל או צל כותל שהם קבועים כבר פי' אביו כצל עובר צלו של עוף הפורח:

פצני. הוציאני ולשון הצלה הוא וכן הפוצה את דוד עבדו (מצאתי):
אֲשֶׁר פִּיהֶם דִּבֶּר־שָׁוְא וִימִינָם יְמִין שָֽׁקֶר׃

פיהם דבר שוא וגו'. תלה הכתוב שוא בפה ושקר בימין, באו לספר בפה בודים גוזמא על שוא אף לשנות את הידוע, באו לפשוט ימינם לשבועה חדלו משוא שנתפס עליו כגנב אבל בשקר נשבעין שכך גורלם:
אֱֽלֹהִים שִׁיר חָדָשׁ אָשִׁירָה לָּךְ בְּנֵבֶל עָשׂוֹר אֲזַמְּרָה־לָּֽךְ׃
I will sing a new song to Thee, O God: upon a harp of ten strings I will sing praises to Thee.

הַנּוֹתֵן תְּשׁוּעָה לַמְּלָכִים הַפּוֹצֶה אֶת־דָּוִד עַבְדּוֹ מֵחֶרֶב רָעָֽה׃

הנותן תשועה למלכים. מדבר על סלע המחלקות שהיה דוד קרוב ליתפש ביד שאול ובא מלאך אל שאול מהרה ולכה וגו' (שמואל א כ״ג:כ״ז) הציל את שאול מהיות שופך דם נקי ואת דוד מהיות נהרג:

פצני והצילני. כאשר פצית אז כן פצני עתה:
אֲשֶׁר בָּנֵינוּ ׀ כִּנְטִעִים מְגֻדָּלִים בִּֽנְעוּרֵיהֶם בְּנוֹתֵינוּ כְזָוִיֹּת מְחֻטָּבוֹת תַּבְנִית הֵיכָֽל׃
For our sons are as plants grown up in their youth; our daughters as corner stones, polished after the fashion of a palace:

אשר בנינו וגו'. כלומר גם עתה דור זה כשר הוא:
בנינו כנטיעים. שאין בהם מום כל כך הם מנוקים מעבירה (מצאתי):
מגדלים בנעוריהם. בשם טוב זה שהם כנטיעים בנערותם גדלים כל ימיהם ואי אפשר לקיים כל שבח זה אלא בדורו של חזקיהו:
בנותינו. גבוהות קומה נאה כזויות של בית אבנים שזויות אבן מכוונות כנגד חברתה ועולה למעלה עד שהזויות מיושרות:
מחטבות תבנית היכל. מהוללות בפי רואיהן ומדמין אותם לתבנית קומת ההיכל, ורבותינו פירשו בנותינו כזויות מתמלאות תאוה כזויות מזבח המלאות דם ואינן נבעלות אלא לבעליהן:
מְזָוֵינוּ מְלֵאִים מְפִיקִים מִזַּן אֶל־זַן צֹאונֵנוּ מַאֲלִיפוֹת מְרֻבָּבוֹת בְּחוּצוֹתֵֽינוּ׃
our garners are full, affording all manner of store: our sheep bring forth thousands and ten thousands in our streets:

מזוינו מלאים. זויות אוצרותינו מלאים טוב:
מפיקים מזן אל זן. מספיקים מזון משנה לשנה, מזן אל זן משעת אסיף מזון לשנה זו עד זמן אסיף לשנה אחרת, זן גובירניי"ל בלע"ז:
מאליפות מרובבות. לאלפים ולרבבו' עושו' פרי:
אַלּוּפֵינוּ מְֽסֻבָּלִים אֵֽין־פֶּרֶץ וְאֵין יוֹצֵאת וְאֵין צְוָחָה בִּרְחֹבֹתֵֽינוּ׃

אלופינו מסבלים. אלופים גדולים שבנו נסבלים על קטניהם שהקטנים נשמעים לגדולים ומתוך כך אין פרץ בנו:
ואין יוצאת. אין שמועה רעה יוצאת למרחוק:
ואין צוחה. ואין קול מהומות מלחמה:
אַשְׁרֵי הָעָם שֶׁכָּכָה לּוֹ אַֽשְׁרֵי הָעָם שֱׁיְהֹוָה אֱלֹהָֽיו׃ {פ}
Happy is that people, that is in such a case: happy is that people, whose God is the Lord.

שככה לו. שכל טובה הזאת שלו:
הרודד עמי תחתי. הרוקע ושוטח את עמי לרבוץ במקומו כמו (איוב י"ב) שוטח לגוים מגדיל אותם, רודד תרגום של רוקע כדמתרגם וירקעו ורדידו, ויש פותרים הרודד עמים תחתי המחליש עמים תחתי אך בספר מדויק מוגה עמי ומסורה עליו ג' סבירין עמים וקורין עמי ועל תחתי יש מסורה עליו תחתיו קרי:
