לָמָּה רָגְשׁוּ גוֹיִם וּלְאֻמִּים יֶהְגּוּ־רִֽיק׃

ולאומים יהגו. בלבם ריק:
ולאומים. מנחם פתר לאומים ואומים וגוים כלם קרובי ענין:
יִתְיַצְּבוּ ׀ מַלְכֵי־אֶרֶץ וְרוֹזְנִים נֽוֹסְדוּ־יָחַד עַל־יְהֹוָה וְעַל־מְשִׁיחֽוֹ׃

יתיצבו מלכי ארץ ורוזנים נוסדו יחד וגו'. ורוזנים שיניור"ש בלעז:
נוסדו. לשון סוד פורקונשילרוו"ט בלע"ז ומה היא העצה:
נְֽנַתְּקָה אֶת־מֽוֹסְרוֹתֵימוֹ וְנַשְׁלִיכָה מִמֶּנּוּ עֲבֹתֵֽימוֹ׃

ננתקה את מוסרותימו. דישרונפרוימ"ש לויקוראנגל"ש בלעז, אלו רצועות שקושרין העול בהם:
עבותימו. לויקורדו"ש בלעז:
יוֹשֵׁב בַּשָּׁמַיִם יִשְׂחָק אֲדֹנָי יִלְעַג־לָֽמוֹ׃

ישחק ילעג ידבר. לשון הוה הם משמשין:

ואני נסכתי מלכי. למה רגשתם ואנכי מניתי לי את זה לנסוך ולמלוך על ציון הר קדשי:

אספרה אל חוק. אמר דוד חוק קצוב הוא ומקבל עלי לספר זאת ולהודיע:
ה' אמר אלי. על ידי נתן וגד ושמואל:
בני אתה. ראש לישראל הקרוין בתורה בני בכורי והם יתקיימו על ידך כמו שנאמר באבנר (שם ב ג) כה אמר ה' ביד דוד עבדי אושיע את עמי ישראל ובשבילם אתה לפני כבן שכולם תלויין בך:
אני היום. שהמלכתיך עליהם:
ילדתיך. להיות קרוי בני וחביב עלי כבן בשבילם כמו שנאמר (דברי הימים א י״ד:ב׳) וידע דוד כי הכינו ה' למלך על ישראל וכי נשאת מלכותו בעבור עמו ישראל ומצינו במלכי ישראל החביבין לפניו שקרוין בנים כמו שנאמר (ש"ב כז) בשלמה הוא יהיה לי לבן ואני אהיה לו לאב ועוד מצינו בדוד במזמור פ"ט הוא יקראני אבי אתה אלי וצור ישועתי:
שְׁאַל מִמֶּנִּי וְאֶתְּנָה גוֹיִם נַחֲלָתֶךָ וַאֲחֻזָּתְךָ אַפְסֵי־אָֽרֶץ׃

שאל ממני. התפלל אלי בכל עת שאתה בא להלחם באויביך:
תְּרֹעֵם בְּשֵׁבֶט בַּרְזֶל כִּכְלִי יוֹצֵר תְּנַפְּצֵֽם׃

בשבט ברזל. היא החרב:
תנפצם. תשברם והוא ל' נפוץ בכל המקרא חרס המשובר לשברים דקים:
וְעַתָּה מְלָכִים הַשְׂכִּילוּ הִוָּסְרוּ שֹׁפְטֵי אָֽרֶץ׃

ועתה מלכים השכילו. נביאי ישראל אנשי רחמים ומוכיחים אומות העולם לסור מרעתם שהקב"ה פושט יד לרשעים ולצדיקים:
עִבְדוּ אֶת־יְהֹוָה בְּיִרְאָה וְגִילוּ בִּרְעָדָֽה׃
Serve the Lord with fear, and rejoice with trembling.

וגילו ברעדה. כשתבוא אותה רעדה שכתוב בה (ישעיהו ל״ג:י״ד) אחזה רעדה חנפים תגילו ותשמחו אם עבדתם את ה':
נַשְּׁקוּ־בַר פֶּן־יֶאֱנַף ׀ וְתֹאבְדוּ דֶרֶךְ כִּֽי־יִבְעַר כִּמְעַט אַפּוֹ אַשְׁרֵי כׇּל־חוֹסֵי בֽוֹ׃ {פ}

נשקו בר. זרזו עצמכם בבר לב (נ"א) נשקו בר ארנישמנט בלעז, ומנחם פתר אותו ל' תאוה כמו (בראשית ג׳:ט״ז) ואל אישך תשוקתך:
פן יאנף. פן יקצוף:
ותאבדו דרך. כענין שנאמר ודרך רשעים תאבד (לעיל א):
כי יבער כמעט אפו. כי ברגע מועט יבער אפו עליכם פתאום ואותה שעה אשרי כל חוסי בו יהיו ניכרים אשורי החוסים בו:
למה רגשו גוים. רבותינו דרשו את הענין על מלך המשיח ולפי משמעו יהיה נכון לפותרו על דוד עצמו כעין שנאמר (ש"ב ה יז) וישמעו פלשתים כי משחו ישראל את דוד למלך עליהם ויקבצו פלשתים את מחניהם ונפלו בידו ועליהם אמר למה רגשו גוים ונתקבצו כולם:
