וְהוּכַן בַּחֶסֶד כִּסֵּא וְיָשַׁב עָלָיו בֶּאֱמֶת בְּאֹהֶל דָּוִד שֹׁפֵט וְדֹרֵשׁ מִשְׁפָּט וּמְהִר צֶֽדֶק׃
And in mercy a throne was established: and he sat upon it in truthfulness in the tabernacle of David, judging, and seeking judgment, and quick to do righteousness.

וישב עליו וגו'. שופט ודורש משפט ומהיר צדק, ת"י ועביד קשוט:
שָׁמַעְנוּ גְאוֹן־מוֹאָב גֵּא מְאֹד גַּאֲוָתוֹ וּגְאוֹנוֹ וְעֶבְרָתוֹ לֹא־כֵן בַּדָּֽיו׃

גא מאד. נתגאה מאד:
גאותו וגאונו. שלא כדין הוא כי עיקר גידולי בניו ע"י ממזרות וניאוף הבנות מאביהן:
עברתו. עיבורו והריון שלו, ד"א עברתו חמתו ששמר לישראל:
לא כן. גבוריו עשו שהיו כפויי טובה:
לָכֵן יְיֵלִיל מוֹאָב לְמוֹאָב כֻּלֹּה יְיֵלִיל לַאֲשִׁישֵׁי קִיר־חֲרֶשֶׂת תֶּהְגּוּ אַךְ־נְכָאִֽים׃
Therefore shall Mo᾽av howl for Mo᾽av, every one shall howl: for the foundations of Qir-ĥareset shall you mourn; surely they are stricken.

לאשישי קיר חרשת. אל חומות קיר חרשת, אשישי כמו (ירמיה מ) נפלו אשיותיה:
תהגו אך נכאים. שברים:

כִּי שַׁדְמוֹת חֶשְׁבּוֹן אֻמְלָל גֶּפֶן שִׂבְמָה בַּעֲלֵי גוֹיִם הָלְמוּ שְׂרוּקֶּיהָ עַד־יַעְזֵר נָגָעוּ תָּעוּ מִדְבָּר שְׁלֻחוֹתֶיהָ נִטְּשׁוּ עָבְרוּ יָֽם׃

שדמות. שדות תבואה:
גפן שבמה. יש ללמד שחשבון היתה מקום שדות ושבמה מקום כרמים ואם תאמר כל אלה ערי עבר הירדן הם וישראל לקחום מיד סיחון ואימתי חזרו ליד מואב כשהגלה סנחריב לראובני ולגדי באו המואבים הסמוכים להם וישבו בהם:
אמלל. חרב:
שרוקיה. נטיעות שורק שלה:
עד יעזר נגעו. שדמות הגפן ושורק הנזכרים כאן אינם אלא משל והם מחנות וסיעות בימי העמים האלה וכת"י:

שלוחותיה. זמורותיה והם משל גליותיה:
נטשו. נפצו כמו ונטשתיך המדברה (יחזקאל כ״ט:ה׳) והנם נטושים (שמואל א ל׳:ט״ז) וינטשו בעמק רפאים (שם כ"ה):
עַל־כֵּן אֶבְכֶּה בִּבְכִי יַעְזֵר גֶּפֶן שִׂבְמָה אֲרַיָּוֶךְ דִּמְעָתִי חֶשְׁבּוֹן וְאֶלְעָלֵה כִּי עַל־קֵיצֵךְ וְעַל־קְצִירֵךְ הֵידָד נָפָֽל׃
Therefore I will bewail with the weeping of Ya῾zer the vine of Sivma: I will water thee with my tears, O Ḥeshbon, and ᾽El῾ale: for on thy summer fruits and on thy harvest the battle cry has fallen.

אבכה בבכי יעזר. ת"י כמא דאייתיתי משריין על יעזר כן אייתי קטולין על שבמה ולשון המקרא הנביא אומר כעין קינות יעזר יש לי עליך לקונן את הגפן שבמה:
אריוך דמעתי. אתרוה עליך דמעה יש תיבה משמשת כשתי תיבות כמו בני יצאוני (ירמיהו י׳:כ׳) ארץ הנגב נתתני (יהושע טז) דברו לשלום (בראשית לז):
קיצך. תאנים שמייבשין בקיץ:
הידד. קול שודדים ובוזזים:
וְנֶאֱסַף שִׂמְחָה וָגִיל מִן־הַכַּרְמֶל וּבַכְּרָמִים לֹֽא־יְרֻנָּן לֹא יְרֹעָע יַיִן בַּיְקָבִים לֹא־יִדְרֹךְ הַדֹּרֵךְ הֵידָד הִשְׁבַּֽתִּי׃
And gladness is taken away, and joy out of the plentiful field; and in the vineyards there shall be no singing, neither shall there be shouting: the treaders shall tread out no wine in their presses; I have made shouting at the vintage to cease.

הידד השבתי. קול המתאספים להטיל הקורה לעצור הענבים:

והוכן בחסד כסא. כשיבא עליך השבר הזה אז יכון כסא דוד ויגדל שבאותו הפרק יפול סנחרב ע"י חזקיהו ויהיה נכון כסאו בחסד שיעשה כמו שמצינו שהיה גומל חסד שנא' בדברי הימים (ב ל) כי חזקיהו מלך יהודה הרים לקהל אלף פרים ושבעת אלפי צאן:
