הוֹי הֲמוֹן עַמִּים רַבִּים כַּהֲמוֹת יַמִּים יֶהֱמָיוּן וּשְׁאוֹן לְאֻמִּים כִּשְׁאוֹן מַיִם כַּבִּירִים יִשָּׁאֽוּן׃
Woe to the multitude of many people, who make a noise like the noise of the seas; and to the rushing of nations, that make a rushing like the rushing of mighty waters!

המון עמים. אוכלוסי סנחרב:
ישאון. לשון תשואה והומה:
לְאֻמִּים כִּשְׁאוֹן מַיִם רַבִּים יִשָּׁאוּן וְגָעַר בּוֹ וְנָס מִמֶּרְחָק וְרֻדַּף כְּמֹץ הָרִים לִפְנֵי־רוּחַ וּכְגַלְגַּל לִפְנֵי סוּפָֽה׃
The nations shall rush like the rushing of many waters: but he shall rebuke them, and they shall flee far off, and shall be chased as the chaff of the mountains before the wind, and like whirling dust before the storm.

וגער בו. הקב"ה באותו שאון:
כמוץ הרים. משל את הרשעים במקולקל שבמינים ובמקולקל שבאותו המין מוץ הרים יבש משל עמקים:
וכגלגל. הוא מפריח של קוצים שקורין קרדונ"ש הדומים לאותו שגוררין בהן בגדי צמר ואינן קשין ובהגיע סמוך לסוף הקיץ הם מתנפצין מאליהן והרוח מפזרן ואותו הנפוץ עשוי כמין גלגל עגולה כמין העץ (ס"א העין) באמצע וחמש זרועותיו סביב לה:
לְעֵת עֶרֶב וְהִנֵּה בַלָּהָה בְּטֶרֶם בֹּקֶר אֵינֶנּוּ זֶה חֵלֶק שׁוֹסֵינוּ וְגוֹרָל לְבֹזְזֵֽינוּ׃ {פ}
And behold at evening, trouble; and before the morning they are no more. This is the portion of them that spoil us, and the lot of them that rob us.

והנה בלהה. שדים באים על האויב ומבהלין אותו:
בטרם בקר איננו. והאויב אין בעולם:
זה חלק שוסינו. חלק סנחריב וחלק גוג ומגוג כשיבאו לבזזינו:
הוי המון עמים רבים. מדה מהלכת על פני כל הדורות שוט שישראל לוקים בו סופו ללקות לפיכך הנביאים הנבאים פורענו' ישראל על ידי האומות סומכין אחריו פורענות האומה שלקה ישראל על ידה:
