מַשָּׂא מִצְרָיִם הִנֵּה יְהֹוָה רֹכֵב עַל־עָב קַל וּבָא מִצְרַיִם וְנָעוּ אֱלִילֵי מִצְרַיִם מִפָּנָיו וּלְבַב מִצְרַיִם יִמַּס בְּקִרְבּֽוֹ׃
The burden of Miżrayim. Behold, the Lord rides upon a swift cloud, and shall come into Miżrayim: and the idols of Miżrayim shall be moved at his presence, and the heart of Miżrayim shall melt in the midst of it.

ונעו אלילי מצרים מפניו. לא יהיה להם כח להציל את עמם מיד שלוחיו של אשור וזה שאמר הנביא פורענות מצרים בלשון הזה מה שלא אמר בלשון הזה לשאר אומות מפני שהם למודים ללקות במדה הזאת ועברתי בארץ מצרים (שמות יב) ובכל אלהי מצרים (שם) ודרך ארץ מייראין את האדם במכה שכבר לקה בה:
וְסִכְסַכְתִּי מִצְרַיִם בְּמִצְרַיִם וְנִלְחֲמוּ אִישׁ־בְּאָחִיו וְאִישׁ בְּרֵעֵהוּ עִיר בְּעִיר מַמְלָכָה בְּמַמְלָכָֽה׃
And I will set Miżrayim against Miżrayim: and they shall fight every one against his brother, and every one against his neighbour; city against city, and kingdom against kingdom.

וסכסכתי מצרים במצרים. סופו מפרש את תחלתו ונלחמו איש באחיו:
וְנָבְקָה רוּחַ־מִצְרַיִם בְּקִרְבּוֹ וַעֲצָתוֹ אֲבַלֵּעַ וְדָרְשׁוּ אֶל־הָֽאֱלִילִים וְאֶל־הָאִטִּים וְאֶל־הָאֹבוֹת וְאֶל־הַיִּדְּעֹנִֽים׃

ונבקה רוח. תתרוקן חכמתו כמו (לקמן כד) בוקק הארץ:
האטים. א' מן השמות של עו"ג:
וְסִכַּרְתִּי אֶת־מִצְרַיִם בְּיַד אֲדֹנִים קָשֶׁה וּמֶלֶךְ עַז יִמְשׇׁל־בָּם נְאֻם הָאָדוֹן יְהֹוָה צְבָאֽוֹת׃

וסכרתי. כמו וסגרתי, ויש עוד לפרש לשון ויסכרו מעיינות תהום (בראשי' ח) אסתמנו ואחבשנו:
ביד אדונים קשה. כל לשון אדנות קרוי בלשון רבים ואפי' יחיד כמו (שם לט) אדני יוסף, עד בא אדוניו (שם):
ומלך עז. מלך אשור:
וְנִשְּׁתוּ־מַיִם מֵֽהַיָּם וְנָהָר יֶחֱרַב וְיָבֵֽשׁ׃
And the waters shall fail from the sea, and the river shall be wasted and dried up.

ונשתו מים מהים. ונחרבו מים מן הים:
ונשתו. ל' השאת והשבר (איכה ג׳:מ״ז) לפי שכל שבח ארץ מצרים ע"י נילוס הוא שאין גשמים יורדים שם אלא נילוס עולה ומשקה אותה דרך יאורי' העשויים בידי אדם לפיכך הוא מדמה פורענות שלה ליובש יאורים:
ונשתו מים מהים. ולא יחזיר הים את נילוס לאחוריו וירד נילוס לתוכו ולא יעלה וישקה את מצרים:
ונהר. זה נילוס:
וְהֶאֶזְנִיחוּ נְהָרוֹת דָּלְלוּ וְחָרְבוּ יְאֹרֵי מָצוֹר קָנֶה וָסוּף קָמֵֽלוּ׃
And the rivers shall become foul; and the canals of Mażor shall be diminished and dried up: the reeds and rushes shall wither.

והאזניחו. כשהמים מתמעטין הטיט ניכר בהם ונעשין רפש ונזנחין:
דללו. במחברת אם דל הוא (ויקרא יד):
יאורי מצור. יאורים עמוקים בחריצי מצורי עיירות:
קנה וסוף. שהיו גדלים שם מרוב מימיהם:
קמלו. כשיבשו היאורים עמדו הקנים מלגדל עוד והם מתייבשים ונופלים ת"י קמלו לא יסקון ובמקום אחר תירגם החפיר לבנון קמל נתר ואומר אני שהוא לשון קציצה שנקצצי' מאליהן מחמת יובשן ונופלין:
עָרוֹת עַל־יְאוֹר עַל־פִּי יְאוֹר וְכֹל מִזְרַע יְאוֹר יִיבַשׁ נִדַּף וְאֵינֶֽנּוּ׃

ערות על יאור על פי יאור, וכל מזרע יאור וגו'. ערות לשון דבר המעורה ונשרש יפה יפה ודומה לו (תהלים לו) רשע עריץ ומתערה כאזרח רענן וכן חברו מנחם במחברתו זרעים הנשרשים על נילוס ואפי' ע"פ שפתו וכל הנזרעים עליו הכל יבש ונדף:
וְאָנוּ הַדַּיָּגִים וְאָבְלוּ כׇּל־מַשְׁלִיכֵי בַיְאוֹר חַכָּה וּפֹרְשֵׂי מִכְמֹרֶת עַל־פְּנֵי־מַיִם אֻמְלָֽלוּ׃

ואנו. לשון אוני ואבל:
הדייגים. הם מצרים שצדין דגים מנילוס שהוא מתפשט ועולה ביאורים רבים העשויין על שפתו על פני ארץ מצרים כולה מה שאין כן בכל הנהרות:
חכה. אמ"ו בלע"ז:
וּבֹשׁוּ עֹבְדֵי פִשְׁתִּים שְׂרִיקוֹת וְאֹרְגִים חוֹרָֽי׃

עובדי פשתים. זורעי פשתים על הנהר:
שריקות. פשתים שסורקין אותן ואורגין מהם מצודות דגים שהן עשויות חורין חורין:
חורי. כמו בהמות שדי (שם ח) וקרע לו חלוני (ירמיהו כ״ב:י״ד):
וְהָיוּ שָׁתֹתֶיהָ מְדֻכָּאִים כׇּל־עֹשֵׂי שֶׂכֶר אַגְמֵי־נָֽפֶשׁ׃

והיו שתותיה מדוכאים כל עושי שכר. אישקלוש"א בלע"ז כמו (בראשית ח׳:ב׳) ויסכרו מעינות תהום שסוכרים המים היוצאין חוץ לשפת הנהר ומתפשטים ונעשים אגם מים הנקוים ועומדין במקומן ורבים שם דגים ואמר הנביא שיהו יסודות חפירותיהן מדוכאים ויפלו אגמי השכר שעשו:
אגמי נפש. אגמי שבת לשון שבת וינפש (שמות לב) שמי האגמים נוחים ועומדים במקום אחד וי"ת דהוו עבדין סוכרא וכנשין מיא גבר לנפשיה:
אַךְ־אֱוִלִים שָׂרֵי צֹעַן חַכְמֵי יֹעֲצֵי פַרְעֹה עֵצָה נִבְעָרָה אֵיךְ תֹּאמְרוּ אֶל־פַּרְעֹה בֶּן־חֲכָמִים אֲנִי בֶּן־מַלְכֵי־קֶֽדֶם׃
Surely the princes of Żo῾an are fools, the counsel of the wise counsellors of Par῾o is become brutish: how can you say to Par῾o, I am the son of the wise, the son of ancient kings?

איך תאמרו. מעתה לפרעה כל איש מכם על עצמו בן חכמים אני ומאח' שיכשל בעצתכם איך תתהללו לפניו לאמר בני חכמים אנחנו אתה בן מלכי קדם:
אַיָּם אֵפוֹא חֲכָמֶיךָ וְיַגִּידוּ נָא לָךְ וְיֵדְעוּ מַה־יָּעַץ יְהֹוָה צְבָאוֹת עַל־מִצְרָֽיִם׃

והיתה אדמת יהודה למצרים לחגא. כשישמעו הנותרים במצרים משבי סנחרב את מפלתו שיפול בארץ יהודה בלא שום מלחמות זרוע בשר ידעו כי יש שכינה בישראל ומושיעם חזק וייראו ויפחדו מפני אדמת יהודה:
חגא. לשון שבר ואימה ופחד לשון יחוגו וינועו כשכור (תהילים ק״ז:כ״ז) וכן חגוי הסלע (שיר ב):
מפני עצת ה' צבאות אשר הוא יועץ עליו. להפילו ביד סנחרב ויהודה ימלט מידו:
רוכב על עב קל. מהרה לשלוח קל מהרה גזרת דברו ליפרע ממצרים:
