כֹּה־אָמַר יְהֹוָה לִמְשִׁיחוֹ לְכוֹרֶשׁ אֲשֶׁר־הֶחֱזַקְתִּי בִימִינוֹ לְרַד־לְפָנָיו גּוֹיִם וּמׇתְנֵי מְלָכִים אֲפַתֵּחַ לִפְתֹּחַ לְפָנָיו דְּלָתַיִם וּשְׁעָרִים לֹא יִסָּגֵֽרוּ׃
Thus says the Lord to his anointed, to Koresh, whose right hand I have held, that I may subdue nations before him, and loose the loins of kings; that I may open before him doors and gates which shall not be shut;

לרד לפניו גוים. להרקיע ולרדד לפניו גוים, לרד לשטוח:
ומתני מלכים אפתח. לשון חלשות הוא זה ושבר כח כי חגורת מתנים הוא זירוז כח כמו אזר נא כגבר חלציך (איוב מ׳:ז׳) ואתה תאזר מתניך (ירמיהו א׳:י״ז) ומזיח אפיקים ריפה (איוב י״ב:כ״א) ל' שברון כח:
לפתוח לפניו. דלתי שערי בבל, שערים הוא חלל פתח השער, דלתים הם הפותחים ונועלין בהן את השער:
אֲנִי לְפָנֶיךָ אֵלֵךְ וַהֲדוּרִים (אושר) [אֲיַשֵּׁר] דַּלְתוֹת נְחוּשָׁה אֲשַׁבֵּר וּבְרִיחֵי בַרְזֶל אֲגַדֵּֽעַ׃
I will go before thee, and make the mountainous places level: I will break in pieces the gates of brass, and cut in sunder the bars of iron:

והדורים אישר. ת"י ושורייא אכבש כמו הדר הדרנה על שם שסובבת החומה את העיר ויש לפרש הדורים אורחות מקלקלות איישר לפניו:
וְנָתַתִּי לְךָ אוֹצְרוֹת חֹשֶׁךְ וּמַטְמֻנֵי מִסְתָּרִים לְמַעַן תֵּדַע כִּֽי־אֲנִי יְהֹוָה הַקּוֹרֵא בְשִׁמְךָ אֱלֹהֵי יִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃
and I will give thee the treasures of darkness, and hidden riches of secret places, that thou mayst know that I, the Lord, who call thee by thy name, am the God of Yisra᾽el.

הקורא בשמך. עדיין לא נולדת ואני קורא לך שם כורש:
לְמַעַן עַבְדִּי יַעֲקֹב וְיִשְׂרָאֵל בְּחִירִי וָאֶקְרָא לְךָ בִּשְׁמֶךָ אֲכַנְּךָ וְלֹא יְדַעְתָּֽנִי׃
For Ya῾aqov my servant’s sake, and Yisra᾽el my elect, I have even called thee by thy name: I have surnamed thee, though thou hast not known me.

למען עבדי יעקב. שתוציאהו מגלות בבל:
ולא ידעתני. לא עשית רצוני כי אני אמרתי הוא יבנה עירי והוא כשעמד אמר מי בכם מכל עמו רשות נתן להם לילך וכל הטורח פורק מעל צוארו:
אֲנִי יְהֹוָה וְאֵין עוֹד זוּלָתִי אֵין אֱלֹהִים אֲאַזֶּרְךָ וְלֹא יְדַעְתָּֽנִי׃

I form the light, and create darkness: I make peace, and create evil: I, the Lord, do all these things.

יוצר אור. לצדיקים:
ובורא חושך. לבבל וכן עושה שלום ובורא רע:
למשיחו. כל שם גדולה קרויה משיחה כמו לך נתתיה למשחה (במדבר י״ח:ח׳) ורבותינו אמרו למלך המשיח אומר הקב"ה קובל אני לך על כורש כדאיתא במסכת מגילה:
