וַתְּהִי הָאֱמֶת נֶעְדֶּרֶת וְסָר מֵרָע מִשְׁתּוֹלֵל וַיַּרְא יְהֹוָה וַיֵּרַע בְּעֵינָיו כִּי־אֵין מִשְׁפָּֽט׃

And truth is absent; and he that departs from evil makes himself ridiculous: and the Lord saw it, and it displeased him for there was no judgment.

משתולל. מוחזק שוטה על הבריות כמו (מיכה א) אלכה שולל והוא מגזרת שוגג דמתרגמינן שלו וכן (ש"ב י) על השל:

וַיַּרְא כִּֽי־אֵין אִישׁ וַיִּשְׁתּוֹמֵם כִּי אֵין מַפְגִּיעַ וַתּוֹשַֽׁע־לוֹ זְרֹעוֹ וְצִדְקָתוֹ הִיא סְמָכָֽתְהוּ׃

וירא כי אין איש. ועתה בהנחמו על הרעה לעמו רואה כי אין איש צדיק לעמוד בפרץ:

וישתומם. ויחרש לראות אם יש מפגיע בעדם ואין מפגיע וישתומם ל' אדם העומד ותוהא ושותק בתמהונו ותי"ו וישתומם כתי"ו של משתולל ושניהם כאן משמשות לשון מתפעל וכן דרך התיבה שיסודה הראשון שי"ן או סמ"ך כשהיא נהפכת ללשון מתפעל נתפעל ויתפעל בא התי"ו באמצע אותיות שרש התיבה נמצא וישתומם לשון שמו שמים (ירמיהו ב׳:י״ב) משמים בתוכם (יחזקאל ג׳:ט״ו) נשמו אחרונים (איוב י״ח:כ׳) ל' תמהון:

ותושע לו זרועו. וינקם מאויביו:

וצדקתו. סמכתהו הוא להשיאו ולאמץ ידיו בנקמתו ואע"פ שאין אנחנו הגונים להושיע:

59:17

וַיִּלְבַּשׁ צְדָקָה כַּשִּׁרְיָן וְכוֹבַע יְשׁוּעָה בְּרֹאשׁוֹ וַיִּלְבַּשׁ בִּגְדֵי נָקָם תִּלְבֹּשֶׁת וַיַּעַט כַּמְעִיל קִנְאָֽה׃

For he put on righteousness as a breastplate, and a helmet of salvation upon his head; and he put on the garments of vengeance for clothing, and was clad with zeal as a cloak.

כְּעַל גְּמֻלוֹת כְּעַל יְשַׁלֵּם חֵמָה לְצָרָיו גְּמוּל לְאֹיְבָיו לָאִיִּים גְּמוּל יְשַׁלֵּֽם׃

וְיִֽרְאוּ מִֽמַּעֲרָב אֶת־שֵׁם יְהֹוָה וּמִמִּזְרַח־שֶׁמֶשׁ אֶת־כְּבוֹדוֹ כִּֽי־יָבוֹא כַנָּהָר צָר רוּחַ יְהֹוָה נֹסְסָה בֽוֹ׃

So shall they fear the name of the Lord from the west, and his glory from the rising of the sun: when affliction comes like a flood which the wind of the Lord drives forth.

וַאֲנִי זֹאת בְּרִיתִי אוֹתָם אָמַר יְהֹוָה רוּחִי אֲשֶׁר עָלֶיךָ וּדְבָרַי אֲשֶׁר־שַׂמְתִּֽי בְּפִיךָ לֹֽא־יָמוּשׁוּ מִפִּיךָ וּמִפִּי זַרְעֲךָ וּמִפִּי זֶרַע זַרְעֲךָ אָמַר יְהֹוָה מֵעַתָּה וְעַד־עוֹלָֽם׃ {ס}

As for me, this is my covenant with them, says the Lord; My spirit that is upon thee, and my words which I have put in thy mouth, shall not depart out of thy mouth, nor out of the mouth of thy seed, nor out of the mouth of thy seed’s seed, says the Lord, from henceforth and for ever.
