דָּבָר שָׁלַח אֲדֹנָי בְּיַעֲקֹב וְנָפַל בְּיִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃

ונפל בישראל. מעתה תתקיים בהם:
וְיָֽדְעוּ הָעָם כֻּלּוֹ אֶפְרַיִם וְיוֹשֵׁב שֹׁמְרוֹן בְּגַאֲוָה וּבְגֹדֶל לֵבָב לֵאמֹֽר׃
And all the people shall know, Efrayim and the inhabitant of Shomeron, that say in pride and arrogancy of heart,

בגאוה ובגודל לבב לאמר. מה שהיו אומרים בגאוה ובגודל לבב:
לְבֵנִים נָפָלוּ וְגָזִית נִבְנֶה שִׁקְמִים גֻּדָּעוּ וַאֲרָזִים נַחֲלִֽיף׃
The bricks are fallen down, but we will build with hewn stones: the sycamores are cut down, but we will change them for cedars.

לבנים נפלו וגזית נבנה. המלכים שהיו לנו קודם שמלך פקח כגון יהואחז בן יהוא שבימיו נתמעטו כענין שנאמר (מלכים ב י״ג:ז׳) כי אבדם מלך ארם שפלים היו והם הלכו להם כבניין לבנים רעוע הנופל אבל זה שהוא עכשיו חזק הוא כבנין אבני גזית וכן ארזים טובים משקמים לבנין:
וַיְשַׂגֵּב יְהֹוָה אֶת־צָרֵי רְצִין עָלָיו וְאֶת־אֹיְבָיו יְסַכְסֵֽךְ׃

וישגב ה' את צרי רצין עליו. הם בוטחים במה שנסמכו על רצין מלך ארם והקב"ה ישגב את מלך אשור עליו ויסכסכנו להשיאו לבא עליו כך שמעתי, ואני אומר את אויביו כלפי השכינה הוא אומר הקב"ה יסכסך את אויביו זה בזה גוי בגוי ארם ופלשתים בישראל וישראל זה בזה כמו שנאמר למטה בענין מנשה את אפרים וגו':
אֲרָם מִקֶּדֶם וּפְלִשְׁתִּים מֵאָחוֹר וַיֹּאכְלוּ אֶת־יִשְׂרָאֵל בְּכׇל־פֶּה בְּכׇל־זֹאת לֹא־שָׁב אַפּוֹ וְעוֹד יָדוֹ נְטוּיָֽה׃
Aram before, and Pelishtim behind; and they devoured Yisra᾽el with open mouth. For all this his anger is not turned away, but his hand is stretched out still.

ארם מקדם. ארם הרעו להם מקדם בימי יהואחז ויואש ופלשתים הרעו להם מאחור שהפלשתים להם במערב:
בכל זאת וגו'. ועוד ידו נטויה עד שיביא עליהם את סנחרב, ד"א ארם מקדם ופלשתים מאחור, היו משחיתים ביהודה, בימי אחז כמו שמפורש (בד"ה ב כה) ועל ישראל ועל יהודה היה ישעיה מתאונן על הצרות הללו:
וְהָעָם לֹא־שָׁב עַד־הַמַּכֵּהוּ וְאֶת־יְהֹוָה צְבָאוֹת לֹא דָרָֽשׁוּ׃ {ס}

עד המכהו. עד הקב"ה שהוא מביא עליו המכו' האלה:
דבר שלח אד' ביעקב. הנבואה שנתנבא לפורענות פקח בן רמליה:
