לָכֵן כֹּֽה־אָמַר יְהֹוָה אֱלֹהֵי צְבָאוֹת יַעַן דַּבֶּרְכֶם אֶת־הַדָּבָר הַזֶּה הִנְנִי נֹתֵן דְּבָרַי בְּפִיךָ לְאֵשׁ וְהָעָם הַזֶּה עֵצִים וַאֲכָלָֽתַם׃
Wherefore thus says the Lord God of hosts, Because you speak this word, behold, I will make my words in thy mouth fire, and this people wood, and it shall devour them.

הִנְנִי מֵבִיא עֲלֵיכֶם גּוֹי מִמֶּרְחָק בֵּית יִשְׂרָאֵל נְאֻם־יְהֹוָה גּוֹי ׀ אֵיתָן הוּא גּוֹי מֵֽעוֹלָם הוּא גּוֹי לֹא־תֵדַע לְשֹׁנוֹ וְלֹא תִשְׁמַע מַה־יְדַבֵּֽר׃
Lo, I will bring a nation upon you from far, O house of Yisra᾽el, says the Lord: it is a mighty nation, it is an ancient nation, a nation whose language thou knowst not, neither dost thou understand what they say.

גוי מעולם הוא. מימי קדם התחיל למרוד בי בדור הפלגה בארץ שנער:
אַשְׁפָּתוֹ כְּקֶבֶר פָּתוּחַ כֻּלָּם גִּבּוֹרִֽים׃

וְאָכַל קְצִֽירְךָ וְלַחְמֶךָ יֹֽאכְלוּ בָּנֶיךָ וּבְנוֹתֶיךָ יֹאכַל צֹֽאנְךָ וּבְקָרֶךָ יֹאכַל גַּפְנְךָ וּתְאֵנָתֶךָ יְרֹשֵׁשׁ עָרֵי מִבְצָרֶיךָ אֲשֶׁר אַתָּה בֹּטֵחַ בָּהֵנָּה בֶּחָֽרֶב׃
And they shall eat up thy harvest, and thy bread, which thy sons and thy daughters should eat: they shall eat up thy flocks and thy herds: they shall eat up thy vines and thy fig trees: they shall batter thy fortified cities, wherein thou dost trust, with the sword.

ירושש ערי מבצריך וגו'. הרי זה מקרא מסורס ירושש בחרב את ערי מבצריך אשר אתה בוטח בהנה:
ירושש. ימסכן:
בחרב. על ידי גייסות וכן הוא אומר וחרב לא תעבור בארצכם (ויקרא כו):
וְגַם בַּיָּמִים הָהֵמָּה נְאֻם־יְהֹוָה לֹא־אֶעֱשֶׂה אִתְּכֶם כָּלָֽה׃

וְהָיָה כִּי תֹאמְרוּ תַּחַת מֶה עָשָׂה יְהֹוָה אֱלֹהֵינוּ לָנוּ אֶת־כׇּל־אֵלֶּה וְאָמַרְתָּ אֲלֵיהֶם כַּאֲשֶׁר עֲזַבְתֶּם אוֹתִי וַתַּעַבְדוּ אֱלֹהֵי נֵכָר בְּאַרְצְכֶם כֵּן תַּעַבְדוּ זָרִים בְּאֶרֶץ לֹא לָכֶֽם׃ {פ}
And it shall come to pass, when you shall say, Why does the Lord our God do all these things to us? then shalt thou answer them, As you have forsaken me, and served strange gods in your land, so shall you serve strangers in a land that is not yours.
