קוֹל מִלְחָמָה בָּאָרֶץ וְשֶׁבֶר גָּדֽוֹל׃
A sound of battle is in the land, and of great destruction.

אֵיךְ נִגְדַּע וַיִּשָּׁבֵר פַּטִּישׁ כׇּל־הָאָרֶץ אֵיךְ הָיְתָה לְשַׁמָּה בָּבֶל בַּגּוֹיִֽם׃
How is the hammer of the whole earth cut asunder and broken! how is Bavel become a desolation among the nations!

יָקֹשְׁתִּי לָךְ וְגַם־נִלְכַּדְתְּ בָּבֶל וְאַתְּ לֹא יָדָעַתְּ נִמְצֵאת וְגַם־נִתְפַּשְׂתְּ כִּי בַיהֹוָה הִתְגָּרִֽית׃
I have laid a snare for thee, and thou art also taken, O Bavel, and thou wast not aware: thou art found, and also caught, because thou hast striven against the Lord.

יקשתי לך. לשון מוקש:
פָּתַח יְהֹוָה אֶת־אוֹצָרוֹ וַיּוֹצֵא אֶת־כְּלֵי זַעְמוֹ כִּֽי־מְלָאכָה הִיא לַאדֹנָי יֱהֹוִה צְבָאוֹת בְּאֶרֶץ כַּשְׂדִּֽים׃
The Lord has opened his armoury, and hath brought forth the weapons of his indignation: for the Lord God of hosts has a work to do in the land of Kasdim.

בֹּֽאוּ־לָהּ מִקֵּץ פִּתְחוּ מַאֲבֻסֶיהָ סׇלּוּהָ כְמֽוֹ־עֲרֵמִים וְהַחֲרִימוּהָ אַל־תְּהִי־לָהּ שְׁאֵרִֽית׃
Come against her from the utmost border, open her stables: cast her up like heaps of grain, and destroy her utterly! let nothing of her be left!

באו לה מקץ. מסוף העיר התחילו בה שלא תדע ותתפש פתאום:
פתחו מאבוסיה. ת"י אבולהא שעריה ואין לו דמיון, ומנחם חברו לשון אבוס:
סלוה. דושו אותה:
כמו ערמים. גרנות:
חִרְבוּ כׇּל־פָּרֶיהָ יֵרְדוּ לַטָּבַח הוֹי עֲלֵיהֶם כִּי־בָא יוֹמָם עֵת פְּקֻדָּתָֽם׃ {ס}
Slay all her bullocks; let them go down to the slaughter: woe to them! for their day is come, the time of their punishment.
