Daniel 2:17-24

2:17

אֱדַיִן דָּנִיֵּאל לְבַיְתֵהּ אֲזַל וְלַחֲנַנְיָה מִֽישָׁאֵל וַעֲזַרְיָה חַבְרוֹהִי מִלְּתָא הוֹדַֽע׃

Then Daniel went to his house and made the thing known to Chananiah, Mishael, and Azaryah, his companions.

2:18

וְרַחֲמִין לְמִבְעֵא מִן־קֳדָם אֱלָהּ שְׁמַיָּא עַל־רָזָא דְּנָה דִּי לָא יְהֽוֹבְדוּן דָּנִיֵּאל וְחַבְרוֹהִי עִם־שְׁאָר חַכִּימֵי בָבֶֽל׃

That they beg mercy of the G-d of heaven concerning this secret; that Daniel and his companions not perish with the rest of the wise men of Bavel.

2:19

אֱדַיִן לְדָנִיֵּאל בְּחֶזְוָא דִֽי־לֵילְיָא רָזָא גְלִי אֱדַיִן דָּֽנִיֵּאל בָּרִךְ לֶאֱלָהּ שְׁמַיָּֽא׃

Then was the secret revealed to Daniel in a night vision. So Daniel blessed the G-d of heaven.

רזא גלי. בסתר נגלה:

2:20

עָנֵה דָֽנִיֵּאל וְאָמַר לֶהֱוֵא שְׁמֵהּ דִּֽי־אֱלָהָא מְבָרַךְ מִן־עָלְמָא וְעַד עָלְמָא דִּי חׇכְמְתָא וּגְבוּרְתָא דִּי לֵֽהּ־הִֽיא׃

Daniel spoke and said: Blessed be the name of G-d for ever and ever, for wisdom and might are His.

2:21

וְהוּא מְהַשְׁנֵא עִדָּנַיָּא וְזִמְנַיָּא מְהַעְדֵּה מַלְכִין וּמְהָקֵים מַלְכִין יָהֵב חׇכְמְתָא לְחַכִּימִין וּמַנְדְּעָא לְיָדְעֵי בִינָֽה׃

And He changes the times and the seasons; He removes kings and sets up kings [(Daniel understood from the dream that Nevuchadnezzar's kingdom would be superseded by another)]; He gives wisdom to the wise, and knowledge to those who have understanding.

מהעדה. מסיר מלכין על שהבין מתוך החלום שמלכות נבוכדנצר פוסקת ומלכות אחרת עומדת:

2:22

הוּא גָּלֵא עַמִּיקָתָא וּמְסַתְּרָתָא יָדַע מָה בַחֲשׁוֹכָא (ונהירא) [וּנְהוֹרָא] עִמֵּהּ שְׁרֵֽא׃

He reveals the deep and secret things; He knows what is in the darkness and the light dwells with Him.

Rashi

הוא גלא עמיקתא. גולה עמוקות:

ומסתרתא. על שגלה לו עומק זה:

2:23

לָךְ ׀ אֱלָהּ אֲבָהָתִי מְהוֹדֵא וּמְשַׁבַּח אֲנָה דִּי חׇכְמְתָא וּגְבוּרְתָא יְהַבְתְּ לִי וּכְעַן הֽוֹדַעְתַּנִי דִּֽי־בְעֵינָא מִנָּךְ דִּֽי־מִלַּת מַלְכָּא הוֹדַעְתֶּֽנָא׃

I thank Thee and praise Thee, O, Thou, G-d of my fathers, who has given me wisdom and might, and has now made known to me what I desired of Thee; for Thou hast made known to me the king's matter.

הודעתנא. הודעתני:

2:24

כׇּל־קֳבֵל דְּנָה דָּֽנִיֵּאל עַל עַל־אַרְיוֹךְ דִּי מַנִּי מַלְכָּא לְהוֹבָדָה לְחַכִּימֵי בָבֶל אֲזַל ׀ וְכֵן אֲמַר־לֵהּ לְחַכִּימֵי בָבֶל אַל־תְּהוֹבֵד הַעֵלְנִי קֳדָם מַלְכָּא וּפִשְׁרָא לְמַלְכָּא אֲחַוֵּֽא׃ {ס}

Thereupon, Daniel went in to Aryoch, whom the king had ordained to destroy the wise men of Bavel. He went and said thus to him: Do not destroy the wise men of Bavel. Bring me in before the king, and I will tell the king the interpretation.
