וַיַּעַן צֹפַר הַֽנַּעֲמָתִי וַיֹּאמַֽר׃

בַּדֶּיךָ מְתִים יַחֲרִישׁוּ וַתִּלְעַג וְאֵין מַכְלִֽם׃

בדיך. שאתה בודה מלבך:
מתים יחרישו. בני אדם:
וַתֹּאמֶר זַךְ לִקְחִי וּבַר הָיִיתִי בְעֵינֶֽיךָ׃
For thou hast said, My doctrine is pure, and I am clean in Thy eyes.

ותאמר. להקב"ה זך לקחי ובר הייתי בעיניך:
וְֽאוּלָם מִֽי־יִתֵּן אֱלוֹהַּ דַּבֵּר וְיִפְתַּח שְׂפָתָיו עִמָּֽךְ׃

תעלומות חכמה. ותדע כי כפלים לתושיה יש לתורה שלא קיימת:
כי (השורש) ישה. כמו (דברים כ״ד:י׳) כי תשה ברעך (כלומר) הרבה יש לו עוד חוב עליך בדברי עוניך:
הַחֵקֶר אֱלוֹהַּ תִּמְצָא אִם עַד־תַּכְלִית שַׁדַּי תִּמְצָֽא׃

החקר אלוה תמצא. שאתה סבור שקיימת הכל:
גׇּבְהֵי שָׁמַיִם מַה־תִּפְעָל עֲמֻקָּה מִשְּׁאוֹל מַה־תֵּדָֽע׃
It is as high as heaven; what canst thou do? deeper than She᾽ol; what canst thou know?

גבהי שמים. דבר שהוא גבוה כגובהי שמים מה תפעל עתה ועמוקה היא החכמה משאול:
אֲרֻכָּה מֵאֶרֶץ מִדָּהּ וּרְחָבָה מִנִּי־יָֽם׃

מדה. מדוד שלה (ס"א מד' שלה) וכאן הזכיר מידוד בל' זכר (שלא אמר מדתה):

ויקהיל. כל פמליאות שלו לווכח על שהסגיר:
ומי. בהן ישיבנו בדברים למצא עול בפעלו ואם מפני שהנידון שליו ושקט ימים רבים, כן דרכו:
כִּי־הוּא יָדַע מְתֵי־שָׁוְא וַיַּרְא־אָוֶן וְלֹא יִתְבּוֹנָֽן׃

כי הוא ידע מתי שוא וירא און ולא יתבונן. שהם עושים ימים ושנים ודומה כמי שלא יתבונן (יתבוננו) כי מאריך אפו:
וְאִישׁ נָבוּב יִלָּבֵב וְעַיִר פֶּרֶא אָדָם יִוָּלֵֽד׃
But the stupid man shall become wise, when a wild ass’s colt, shall be turned into man!

ואיש נבוב. חלול בלא לב אשר לא הבין דרכו:
ילבב. יקנה לו לב לשוב לבוראו ולפשפש במעשיו או אדם אשר היה כעיר פרא לימוד מדבר קל בלא דעת:
אדם יולד. ילמד עצמו להיות אדם חדש כסדר בני אדם ויכוין דרכו:
אִם־אַתָּה הֲכִינוֹתָ לִבֶּךָ וּפָרַשְׂתָּ אֵלָיו כַּפֶּֽיךָ׃

ומצהרים יקום חלד. יותר מאור צהרים יקום לך חלד מזל וזמן כמו וחלדי כאין נגדך (תהילים ל״ט:ו׳) ד"א יקום חלד כמו יקום אור חלודה שלך כלומר שיהיה מקום אפילה מאיר יותר מאור צהרים זו שמעתי אבל הראשון לא נראה (סא"א):
תעופה. אפילה שלך כבקר תהיה ע"א תעופה לשון עפעפי שחר (לעיל ג) שאם הוא לשון אופל היה לו לומר תעופה נקוד בשו"א כמו תנופה תקומה תרומה תנומה:
וּֽבָטַחְתָּ כִּֽי־יֵשׁ תִּקְוָה וְחָפַרְתָּ לָבֶטַח תִּשְׁכָּֽב׃
And thou shalt be secure, because there is hope; yea, thou shalt look about thee, and thou shalt take thy rest in safety.

ועיני רשעים. שונאיך:
תכלנה. בפנותם ברעתך לראות ולא ישיגו (תאוותם) וכל כליון עינים שבלשון קודש זהו המצפה לראות ואינו משיג וכמו ועיניך רואות וכלות אליהם וגו' (דברים כ״ח:ל״ב):
ומנוס. הוא מבטח:
ותקותם. מה שהם מקוים לראות בך למפח נפש יהיה להם:
מענה צופר:
לא יענה. מאחרים מפני רוב דבריו:
