כִּֽי־תֵשֵׁב לִלְחוֹם אֶת־מוֹשֵׁל בִּין תָּבִין אֶת־אֲשֶׁר לְפָנֶֽיךָ׃

בין תבין. תן לבך לדעת מי הוא אם עינו צרה או יפה:
וְשַׂמְתָּ שַׂכִּין בְּלֹעֶךָ אִם־בַּעַל נֶפֶשׁ אָֽתָּה׃

ושמת שכין בלועך. בלחייך אם ראית עינו צרה אל תאכל משלו:
אם בעל נפש אתה. אם רעבתן אתה ותאב לאכול טוב לתחוב סכין בין שניך, ורבותינו דרשו בתלמיד היושב לפני רבו אם יודע ברבו שיחזיר לו תשובה על כל דבר שישאלהו ידקדק וישאל שמועתו ואם לאו ישתוק:
אַל־תִּתְאָו לְמַטְעַמּוֹתָיו וְהוּא לֶחֶם כְּזָבִֽים׃

אל תתאו למטעמותיו. אלא פרוש ממנו ולך לפני רב הגון ולא תביישהו בשאלות אחר שלא ידע להשיב:
אַל־תִּיגַע לְֽהַעֲשִׁיר מִֽבִּינָתְךָ חֲדָֽל׃
Do not toil to be rich: because thou hast understanding, forbear.

אל תיגע להעשיר. לעשות גירסתך חבילות חבילות כי סוף שתשכחנה:
(התעוף) [הֲתָעִיף]־עֵינֶיךָ בּוֹ וְֽאֵינֶנּוּ כִּי עָשֹׂה יַעֲשֶׂה־לּוֹ כְנָפַיִם כְּנֶשֶׁר (ועיף) [יָעוּף] הַשָּׁמָֽיִם׃ {פ}
