יְֽהֹוָה אַל־בְּקֶצְפְּךָ תוֹכִיחֵנִי וּֽבַחֲמָתְךָ תְיַסְּרֵֽנִי׃
O Lord, rebuke me not in Thy wrath: nor chasten me in Thy hot displeasure.

נחתו. נזרקו ל' נחת נופל בנטיית קשת ולפי שעל ידי דריכת הקשת נזרקים החצים כתיב נחתו בי וכן (שמות ט״ו:ט׳) אריק חרבי היה לו לכתוב אריק תערי אלא לפי שכשמוציאין חרב מתערה התער ריק ממנה לכך תולה הריקות בחרב וכן (לעיל י"ח) ונחתה קשת נחושה ואין הנו"ן שורש בתיבה שאם היתה שורש היה לו לומ' ננחתו בי אבל נו"ן של נחתו וכן של ותנחת אינ' שורש ונופל' לפרקים כמו ונו"ן של נגף, נשך, נדר, נקם, כשמתפעל יאמר ניגף נישך נידר ניקם כמו ננגף ננשך ננדר ננקם שהדגש בא בתיבה במקום נו"ן, וכן עלה נדף (ויקרא כ"ז), עיני נגרה (איכה ג׳:מ״ט) כמו ננדף ננגרה כן יאמר נחתו כמו ננחתו וכן ונחתה קשת נחושה (ש"ב כ"ה) כמו וננחתה שדרך החי"ת להתנהג כמנהג דגשות ברוב מקומות כגון כחש לו וממשקל דגוש כמו דבר מגזרת וידבר כך כחש מגזרת ותכחש שרה (בראשית י״ח:ט״ו) ולא יאמר כיחש כאשר יאמר מן המברך ברך ולא יאמר בירך כאשר יאמר דיבר לפי שאין דגשות ניכר ברי"ש אבל בחי"ת ניכר דגשות וכן (דברים ל"ב) שיחת כמו כיפר דיבר אף כאן יאמר נחתו כמו נגשו נתנו מגזר' נחת נתן נגש והנו"ן יסוד נופל לכנס דגש במקומה כשהיא מתפעל וכן (שמואל א ב׳:ד׳) קשת גבורי' חתים מגזרת נחת וחתת כאשר יאמר מן נסב סבב מן נשם שמם ונשמו דרכיהם (ויקרא כ״ו:ל״ב) ושממו עליה (שם) וכן בלל נבל כי שם בלל ה' ונבלה שם שפתם (בראשית י״א:ז׳) כן יאמר נחת וחתת בלשון פעל:
ותנחת עלי ידך. פירש לחציך נחתו בי וכן פתרונו מה דרך בקשת לירות החצים יד שלך היא נחתה בקשת להפיל עלי חצים ותנחת לשון ותרד ובזה הנו"ן שורש בתבה וכן (לעיל י"ח) ונחתה קשת נחושה אין הנו"ן שורש בתיבה (סא"א):
אֵין־מְתֹם בִּבְשָׂרִי מִפְּנֵי זַעְמֶךָ אֵין־שָׁלוֹם בַּעֲצָמַי מִפְּנֵי חַטָּאתִֽי׃
There is no soundness in my flesh because of Thy anger; nor is there any health in my bones because of my sin.

כִּי עֲוֺנֹתַי עָבְרוּ רֹאשִׁי כְּמַשָּׂא כָבֵד יִכְבְּדוּ מִמֶּֽנִּי׃

הִבְאִישׁוּ נָמַקּוּ חַבּוּרֹתָי מִפְּנֵי אִוַּלְתִּֽי׃

אֹֽהֲבַי ׀ וְרֵעַי מִנֶּגֶד נִגְעִי יַעֲמֹדוּ וּקְרוֹבַי מֵרָחֹק עָמָֽדוּ׃

מנגד נגעי יעמדו. אותם נראין לי כאוהבים בשעת הנאתן וכשרואין שהנגע בא עלי אין עומדין לי בשעת דחקי אלא מנגדי יעמודו ואינם עוזרים לי:
וקרובי. שמראים לי עצמם קרובים:
וַיְנַקְשׁוּ ׀ מְבַקְשֵׁי נַפְשִׁי וְדֹרְשֵׁי רָעָתִי דִּבְּרוּ הַוּוֹת וּמִרְמוֹת כׇּל־הַיּוֹם יֶהְגּֽוּ׃

וינקשו מבקשי. מוקשים לי:
יהגו. יחשבו:
וַאֲנִי כְחֵרֵשׁ לֹא אֶשְׁמָע וּכְאִלֵּם לֹא יִפְתַּח־פִּֽיו׃

ואני כחרש. ישראל שומעים חרפתם מן המחרפי' ואינם משיבים ולמה כי לך הוחלתי שתגאלני ותושיעני מהם:
וָאֱהִי כְּאִישׁ אֲשֶׁר לֹֽא־שֹׁמֵעַ וְאֵין בְּפִיו תּוֹכָחֽוֹת׃
Thus I was like a man that hears not, and in whose mouth are no rebukes.

כי אמרתי פן ישמחו לי. לכך אנו שותקים כי אומרים אנו בלבנו אם נשיבם עזות שמ' יראו במפלתנו וישמחו לנו במוט רגלינו ויגדילו עלינו לומר הלא הייתם מתפארים בתשועתכם:
כִּֽי־אֲנִי לְצֶלַע נָכוֹן וּמַכְאוֹבִי נֶגְדִּי תָמִֽיד׃

כי אני לצלע נכון. לכך אנו דואגים פן ישמחו לנו לפי שמלומדים אנו במכות ומוכנים ומזומנים לשבר תמיד:
ומכאובי נגדי. מזומן הוא לבא עלי תמיד:
כִּֽי־עֲוֺנִי אַגִּיד אֶדְאַג מֵחַטָּאתִֽי׃
For I will declare my iniquity; I will be sorry for my sin.

But my enemies are in vigorous life; and they who hate me wrongfully are many.

חיים עצמו. מעצימים חיים בשלום ובטובה:
ורבו. והגדילו שנאי על דברי שקר:
וּמְשַׁלְּמֵי רָעָה תַּחַת טוֹבָה יִשְׂטְנוּנִי תַּחַת (רדופי) [רׇֽדְפִי־]טֽוֹב׃
