Son of man, set thy face towards the south, and preach towards the south, and prophesy against the forest land of the Negev;

אל יער השדה. אל בית מקדשי שעתיד להיות כיער וכשדה להחרש להלך בו שועלים:
וְאָֽמַרְתָּ לְיַעַר הַנֶּגֶב שְׁמַע דְּבַר־יְהֹוָה כֹּה־אָמַר אֲדֹנָי יֱהֹוִה הִנְנִי מַֽצִּית־בְּךָ ׀ אֵשׁ וְאָכְלָה בְךָ כׇל־עֵֽץ־לַח וְכׇל־עֵץ יָבֵשׁ לֹֽא־תִכְבֶּה לַהֶבֶת שַׁלְהֶבֶת וְנִצְרְבוּ־בָהּ כׇּל־פָּנִים מִנֶּגֶב צָפֽוֹנָה׃
and say to the forest of the Negev, Hear the word of the Lord; Thus says the Lord God; Behold, I will kindle a fire in thee, and it shall devour every green tree in thee, and every dry tree; it shall not be quenched; it shall be a flaming flame, and all faces from the Negev northwards shall be scorched by it.

ונצרבו. לשון צרבת השחין (ויקרא יג) על שפתיו כאש צרבת (משלי טז) לשון כויה:
כל פנים מנגב צפונה. כל האנשים שבדרומה של בבל שהוא בצפון ל' צרב רטרי"יר בלע"ז:
וְרָאוּ כׇּל־בָּשָׂר כִּי אֲנִי יְהֹוָה בִּֽעַרְתִּיהָ לֹא תִּכְבֶּֽה׃
And all flesh shall see that I the Lord have kindled it: it shall not be quenched.

ממשל משלים הוא. כשאני מתנבא להם בלשון משל וחידה כגון יער ואש אוכלת לח ויבש:
