וַיְהִי דְבַר־יְהֹוָה אֵלַי בַּשָּׁנָה הַתְּשִׁיעִית בַּחֹדֶשׁ הָעֲשִׂירִי בֶּעָשׂוֹר לַחֹדֶשׁ לֵאמֹֽר׃

בֶּן־אָדָם (כתוב) [כְּתׇב־]לְךָ אֶת־שֵׁם הַיּוֹם אֶת־עֶצֶם הַיּוֹם הַזֶּה סָמַךְ מֶֽלֶךְ־בָּבֶל אֶל־יְרוּשָׁלַ͏ִם בְּעֶצֶם הַיּוֹם הַזֶּֽה׃
Son of man, write the name of the day, of this same day: the king of Bavel has invested Yerushalayim on this very day.

סמך מלך בבל. היום צר עליה:
וּמְשֹׁל אֶל־בֵּית־הַמֶּרִי מָשָׁל וְאָמַרְתָּ אֲלֵיהֶם כֹּה אָמַר אֲדֹנָי יֱהֹוִה שְׁפֹת הַסִּיר שְׁפֹת וְגַם־יְצֹק בּוֹ מָֽיִם׃

שפות הסיר. ע"פ הכירה במקום מושבה היא קרויה שפיתה בלשון המשנה שאמרו רבותינו מקום שפיתת שתי קדירות ועוד שנינו אחד שופת את הקדירה ואחד נותן לתוכה מים ואחד נותן לתוכה תבלין למדנו שהשפיתה היא הושבתה על פי הכירה עד שלא יתנו לתוכה כלום והדוגמא זו על ירושלים שאמרתם (לעיל) עליה היא הסיר עתה בא העת שתהיה לסיר ואתם בתוכה לבשר יבא נבוכדנצר ויתננה על האור, ומנחם פירש לשון שימה:
וגם יצוק בו מים. הם צרכי המצור, יצוק כמו שפוך:
אֱסֹף נְתָחֶיהָ אֵלֶיהָ כׇּל־נֵתַח טוֹב יָרֵךְ וְכָתֵף מִבְחַר עֲצָמִים מַלֵּֽא׃

אסוף נתחיה אליה. מיראת המצור אספו לתוכה כל ראשיה ושריה:

מִבְחַר הַצֹּאן לָקוֹחַ וְגַם דּוּר הָעֲצָמִים תַּחְתֶּיהָ רַתַּח רְתָחֶיהָ גַּם־בָּשְׁלוּ עֲצָמֶיהָ בְּתוֹכָֽהּ׃ {ס}

מבחר הצאן לקוח. קח אתה נבוכדנצר את מבחר חייליך סביבותיה כן ת"י ואינו מיושב על ענין הסיר וכן צריך לפותרו מבחר ישראל יבאו ויכנסו בתוכה:
וגם דור העצמים תחתיה. סדר וערך העצמים תחת שאר האיברים כלומר ילחמו הגבורים בשביל החלשים ויסמכו אלו עליהן, דור לשון עריכה וכן יצנפך צנפה כדור (ישעיהו כ״ב:י״ח) שורות היקף גייסות וכן שורה תרגום דרא מנחם פירש כמו אני אגדיל המדורה:
רתח רתחיה. ואחר שיהו כולם לתוכה יקרבו כלי המצור והמלחמה אל העיר:
