וַיֹּאמֶר אֵלָי בֶּן־אָדָם לֶךְ־בֹּא אֶל־בֵּית יִשְׂרָאֵל וְדִבַּרְתָּ בִדְבָרַי אֲלֵיהֶֽם׃
And he said to me, Son of man, go, get thee to the house of Yisra᾽el, and speak with my words to them.

For thou art not sent to a people of a strange speech and of a hard language, but to the house of Yisra᾽el;

אל בית ישראל. כי אל בית ישראל אני שולחך אשר לשונם כלשונך:
לֹא ׀ אֶל־עַמִּים רַבִּים עִמְקֵי שָׂפָה וְכִבְדֵי לָשׁוֹן אֲשֶׁר לֹא־תִשְׁמַע דִּבְרֵיהֶם אִם־לֹא אֲלֵיהֶם שְׁלַחְתִּיךָ הֵמָּה יִשְׁמְעוּ אֵלֶֽיךָ׃

אם לא אליהם שלחתיך וגו'. ל' שבועה היא אם אליהם שלחתיך חי אני אם לא המה ישמעו אליך ומקרא מסורס הוא:
וּבֵית יִשְׂרָאֵל לֹא יֹאבוּ לִשְׁמֹעַ אֵלֶיךָ כִּי־אֵינָם אֹבִים לִשְׁמֹעַ אֵלָי כִּי כׇּל־בֵּית יִשְׂרָאֵל חִזְקֵי־מֵצַח וּקְשֵׁי־לֵב הֵֽמָּה׃
But the house of Yisra᾽el will not hearken to thee; for they will not hearken to me: for all the house of Yisra᾽el are defiant and hardhearted.

הִנֵּה נָתַתִּי אֶת־פָּנֶיךָ חֲזָקִים לְעֻמַּת פְּנֵיהֶם וְאֶֽת־מִצְחֲךָ חָזָק לְעֻמַּת מִצְחָֽם׃

כְּשָׁמִיר חָזָק מִצֹּר נָתַתִּי מִצְחֶךָ לֹֽא־תִירָא אוֹתָם וְלֹא־תֵחַת מִפְּנֵיהֶם כִּי בֵּית מְרִי הֵֽמָּה׃ {פ}

כשמיר. מין תולעת הוא שמראין אותו על האבן והיא נבקעת כנגדו (הג"ה ל"א שמיר ל' סלע חזק ובתרגום ירושלמי הוא תרגום של צור וכן תרגום מצור החלמיש (דברים ח׳:ט״ו) שמיר טנרא ויש משמע שמיר הברזל החזק כי כמו שנקרא הצור החזק שמיר כמו כן נקרא הברזל שמיר בשביל חזקו סא"א):
