כֹּה אָמַר אֲדֹנָי יֱהֹוִה וְהָיָה ׀ בַּיּוֹם הַהוּא יַעֲלוּ דְבָרִים עַל־לְבָבֶךָ וְחָשַׁבְתָּ מַחֲשֶׁבֶת רָעָֽה׃
Thus says the Lord God; It shall come to pass on that day, that things shall come into thy mind, and thou shalt think an evil scheme:

מחשבת רעה. להלחם כנגדי:
וְאָמַרְתָּ אֶֽעֱלֶה עַל־אֶרֶץ פְּרָזוֹת אָבוֹא הַשֹּׁקְטִים יֹשְׁבֵי לָבֶטַח כֻּלָּם יֹֽשְׁבִים בְּאֵין חוֹמָה וּבְרִיחַ וּדְלָתַיִם אֵין לָהֶֽם׃
and thou shalt say, I will go up to the land of unwalled villages; I will go to them that are at quiet, that dwell in safety, all of them dwelling without walls, and having neither bars nor gates;

על ארץ פרזות. יושבי כפרים מאין חומה שבוטחים במעוזם ואינ' יראים להתאסף אל ערי מבצר:

אבוא. אל השוקטים ואראה מה הוא מבטחם:
לִשְׁלֹל שָׁלָל וְלָבֹז בַּז לְהָשִׁיב יָדְךָ עַל־חֳרָבוֹת נוֹשָׁבוֹת וְאֶל־עַם מְאֻסָּף מִגּוֹיִם עֹשֶׂה מִקְנֶה וְקִנְיָן יֹשְׁבֵי עַל־טַבּוּר הָאָֽרֶץ׃
to take a spoil, and to take a prey; to turn thy hand against the waste places that are now inhabited, and against a people that are gathered out of the nations, that have acquired cattle and goods, and that dwell at the centre of the earth.

להשיב ידך על חרבות נושבות. להשחית שנית את הערים שהיו חורבות עד הנה ועכשיו נתיישבו:
ואל עם מאוסף. מעמים העושים עתה מקנה וקניין:
על טבור הארץ. על גובה וחוזק הארץ כטבור זה שהוא אמצעי של אדם ומשופע מכל צדדיו:
שְׁבָא וּדְדָן וְסֹחֲרֵי תַרְשִׁישׁ וְכׇל־כְּפִירֶיהָ יֹאמְרוּ לְךָ הֲלִשְׁלֹל שָׁלָל אַתָּה בָא הֲלָבֹז בַּז הִקְהַלְתָּ קְהָלֶךָ לָשֵׂאת ׀ כֶּסֶף וְזָהָב לָקַחַת מִקְנֶה וְקִנְיָן לִשְׁלֹל שָׁלָל גָּדֽוֹל׃ {ס}
Sheva, and Dedan, and the merchants of Tarshish, with all its young lions, shall say to thee. Art thou come to take a spoil? hast thou gathered thy company to take a prey? to carry away silver and gold, to take away cattle and goods, to take a great spoil?

וכל כפיריה. סוחרים חריפין שבה הרגילין לצאת ולשוט ככפירים בכל המדינות ויודעין איזה מקום העושר:
יאמרו לך הלשלול שלל אתה. כלומר מי הגיד לך את מקום העושר הידעת כי לארץ מלאה שלל ובז אתה הולך ושם באמת תמצא הון עתק:
