מַשָּׂא דּוּמָה אֵלַי קֹרֵא מִשֵּׂעִיר שֹׁמֵר מַה־מִּלַּיְלָה שֹׁמֵר מַה־מִּלֵּֽיל׃

אלי קורא משעיר. אמר הקב"ה אלי קורא הנביא או המלאך מעול מלכות שעיר:
שומר מה מלילה. שומר ישראל מה תהא מן הלילה והחשכה הזאת:
אָמַר שֹׁמֵר אָתָה בֹקֶר וְגַם־לָיְלָה אִם־תִּבְעָיוּן בְּעָיוּ שֻׁבוּ אֵתָֽיוּ׃ {פ}
The watchman said, The morning comes, and also the night: if you will inquire, inquire: return, come.

אמר שומר. הקב"ה:
אתא בקר. יש לפני להזריח לעשות בקר לכם:
וגם לילה. מתוקן לעשו לעת קץ:
אם תבעיון בעיו. אם תבקשו בקשתכם למהר הקץ:
שובו אתיו. בתשובה:
דומה. הוא אדום וכן הוא אומר מי כצור כדומה בתוך הים (יחזקאל כז):
