וְכֻפַּר בְּרִֽיתְכֶם אֶת־מָוֶת וְחָזוּתְכֶם אֶת־שְׁאוֹל לֹא תָקוּם שׁוֹט שׁוֹטֵף כִּי יַֽעֲבֹר וִהְיִיתֶם לוֹ לְמִרְמָֽס׃
And your covenant with death shall be annulled, and your agreement with She᾽ol shall not stand; when the overflowing scourge shall pass through, then you shall be trodden down by it.

וחזותכם. אשר אמרתם עם שאול עשינו חוזה:
שוט שוטף. אשר אמרת' לא יבואנו והייתם לו למרמס:
מִדֵּי עׇבְרוֹ יִקַּח אֶתְכֶם כִּֽי־בַבֹּקֶר בַּבֹּקֶר יַעֲבֹר בַּיּוֹם וּבַלָּיְלָה וְהָיָה רַק־זְוָעָה הָבִין שְׁמוּעָֽה׃
As often as it goes forth it shall take you: for morning by morning shall it pass over, by day and by night: and the mere understanding of the report shall bring terror.

בבקר בבקר. כלו' תדיר תדיר אביא עליכם גזירות:
והיה רק זועה הבין שמועה. זועה לכל השומעים להבין שמועות פורענו' הקשות שאביא עליכם כל השומעים יזועו:
כִּֽי־קָצַר הַמַּצָּע מֵהִשְׂתָּרֵעַ וְהַמַּסֵּכָה צָרָה כְּהִתְכַּנֵּֽס׃

כי קצר המצע מהשתרע. כי אביא עליכם שונא דוחק אתכם אשר לא תוכלו להספיק עבודתו כשיציע מצעו עליכם יקצר לו מהשתרע השוכב עליו:
מהשתרע. מהשתטח להאריך איבריו אישטנדליי"ר בלע"ז:
והמסכה צרה. הנסיך שימשול עליכם יהיה מקומכם דחוק לו בהתכנסו לתוכו, ורבותינו דרשוהו על עכו"ם שהכניס מנשה להיכל קצר המצע הזה מהשתרע מהשתרר עליו שני רעים ואני פרשתיו לפי פשוטו ובדרך זה ת"י ואף מדרש רבותינו יש לישבו על אופן הדבור כלומר למה אני מביא עליכם פורענות זו לפי שקצר המצע מהשתרע אני לבדי עליו שנאמר (מ"א ח) הנה השמים לא יכלכלוך וכל שכן בהכניסכם מסכה עמי כביכול צר לנו המקום:
כִּי כְהַר־פְּרָצִים יָקוּם יְהֹוָה כְּעֵמֶק בְּגִבְעוֹן יִרְגָּז לַעֲשׂוֹת מַעֲשֵׂהוּ זָר מַעֲשֵׂהוּ וְלַֽעֲבֹד עֲבֹדָתוֹ נׇכְרִיָּה עֲבֹדָתֽוֹ׃

כי כהר פרצים. ת"י ארי כמא דזעו טוריא כד אתגלי יקרא דה' ביומי עוזיה מלכא וכניסין דעביד ליהושע במישר גבעון וכו' כן יתגלי לאתפרעא מדעבדין וכו':
זר מעשהו. ידמה לכם לזר כי יבוא עליכם פורענות קשה:
לעבוד עבודתו. לעשות מלאכתו כמו עבודת האדמה לבורי"ר בלע"ז:
וְעַתָּה אַל־תִּתְלוֹצָצוּ פֶּֽן־יֶחְזְקוּ מֽוֹסְרֵיכֶם כִּֽי־כָלָה וְנֶחֱרָצָה שָׁמַעְתִּי מֵאֵת אֲדֹנָי יֱהֹוִה צְבָאוֹת עַל־כׇּל־הָאָֽרֶץ׃ {פ}

וכופר בריתכם את מות. ויתבטל הברית אשר אמרתם כרתנו ברית את מות כל כפרה לשון קנוח סילוק דבר וכן (בראשית לב) אכפרה פניו:
