כִּי כֹֽה־אָמַר אֲדֹנָי יֱהֹוִה קְדוֹשׁ יִשְׂרָאֵל בְּשׁוּבָה וָנַחַת תִּוָּשֵׁעוּן בְּהַשְׁקֵט וּבְבִטְחָה תִּֽהְיֶה גְּבוּרַתְכֶם וְלֹא אֲבִיתֶֽם׃
For thus says the Lord God, the Holy One of Yisra᾽el; In ease and rest shall you be saved; in quietness and in confidence shall be your strength: and you did not wish it.

בשובה. לשון ישוב ומרגוע וכן שובה ה' רבבות אלפי ישראל (במדבר י):
בהשקט. הבא לכם מאתי ובבטחה תהיה גבורתכם:
וַתֹּאמְרוּ לֹא־כִי עַל־סוּס נָנוּס עַל־כֵּן תְּנוּסוּן וְעַל־קַל נִרְכָּב עַל־כֵּן יִקַּלּוּ רֹדְפֵיכֶֽם׃
But you said, No; for we will flee upon horses; therefore shall you flee; and, We will ride upon the swift; therefore shall they that pursue you be swift.

על סוס ננוס. נתקשר במלכי מצרי' ונביא משם סוסים קלים לנוס:
אֶלֶף אֶחָד מִפְּנֵי גַּעֲרַת אֶחָד מִפְּנֵי גַּעֲרַת חֲמִשָּׁה תָּנֻסוּ עַד אִם־נוֹתַרְתֶּם כַּתֹּרֶן עַל־רֹאשׁ הָהָר וְכַנֵּס עַל־הַגִּבְעָֽה׃
One thousand shall flee at the rebuke of one; at the rebuke of five shall you flee: till you be left like a flagstaff upon the top of a mountain, and as a banner on a hill.

אלף אחד. מכם מפני גערת אחד. מן האויבים או כולכם מפני גערת חמשה תנוסו:
אם נותרתם. כמו אשר נותרתם:
כתורן. עץ גבוה תקוע בארץ כמין תורן הספינה שקורין מש"ט בלע"ז:
וכנס. אף הוא כלונס גבוה שנותנים בראש הגבעה וכשרוא' הצופה גייסות באין נותן עליו סודר והרוח מוליכו והוא סימן שינוסו או יתקבצו:
וְלָכֵן יְחַכֶּה יְהֹוָה לַחֲנַנְכֶם וְלָכֵן יָרוּם לְרַחֶמְכֶם כִּֽי־אֱלֹהֵי מִשְׁפָּט יְהֹוָה אַשְׁרֵי כׇּל־חוֹכֵי לֽוֹ׃ {פ}
And therefore will the Lord wait, that he may be gracious to you, and therefore will he be exalted, that he may have mercy upon you: for the Lord is a God of judgment: happy are all they that wait for him.

ולכן. על שלא אביתם לשמוע:
יחכה ה' לחננכם. אינו מדלג לכם על הגזרה הרעה שנגזרה עליכם כדי למהר ולהביא הטובה אלא יחכה וימתין עד בא קיצה:
ולכן ירום לרחמכם. יתרחק לרחמכם:
כי אלהי משפט ה'. ויפרע תחי ווה מן המורדים בו:
אשרי כל חוכי לו. לנחמות אשר הבטיח כי לא יפול דבר:
כי כה אמר. הקב"ה לכם זה ימים אין אתם צריכים לבקש לכם מעוז מצרים ולאבד ממונכם כי בשובה ונחת תהיה לכם תשועה בלא שום טורח אם תשמעו לי:
