בַּיָּמִים הָהֵם חָלָה חִזְקִיָּהוּ לָמוּת וַיָּבוֹא אֵלָיו יְשַֽׁעְיָהוּ בֶן־אָמוֹץ הַנָּבִיא וַיֹּאמֶר אֵלָיו כֹּֽה־אָמַר יְהֹוָה צַו לְבֵיתֶךָ כִּי מֵת אַתָּה וְלֹא תִֽחְיֶֽה׃
In those days Ḥizqiyyahu fell mortally sick. And Yesha῾yahu the prophet, the son of Amoż came to him, and said to him, Thus says the Lord, Set thy house in order: for thou shalt die, and not live.

צל המעלות. כמין מדרגות עשויות כנגד החמה לבחון בהם שעות היום כעין אורלוגין שעושין האומנין:
אשר ירדה. מיהרה לירד ונתקצר היום י' שעות ביום שמת אחז כדי שלא יהו מספידין אותו ועלו עכשיו לאחוריהם ביום שנתרפא חזקיהו וניתוספו על היום י' שעות:

אֲנִי אָמַרְתִּי בִּדְמִי יָמַי אֵלֵכָה בְּשַׁעֲרֵי שְׁאוֹל פֻּקַּדְתִּי יֶתֶר שְׁנוֹתָֽי׃

כאוהל רעי. כאהל רועי בהמה שמסיעו מכאן ותוקעו במקום אחר כשכלה מרעה זה:
קפדתי. הכרתי מהר חיי כאורג הממהר לארוג כל זה הייתי סבור, וי"ת כנחל גדודין כנחל המושך בין גדות גבוהין שאינו מתפשט ומתוך כך מימיו קלים לרוץ, ואומר אני שהוא נחל חריף ששמו אורג והוא שאמר (איוב ז׳:ו׳) ימי קלו מני אורג חלפו עם אניות אבה (שם ט):
מדלה יבצעני. ת"י מיקר מלכותי אנא גלי סבור הייתי שעתה יבצעני מכל כבודי דלה ל' גוה וכן ודלת ראשך (שיר ז):
מיום ועד לילה תשלימני. כמו מזכר ועד נקבה כלומר מימים ומלילות תכלני וכן תירגם יונתן יממי ולילותי שלימו:
שִׁוִּיתִי עַד־בֹּקֶר כָּאֲרִי כֵּן יְשַׁבֵּר כׇּל־עַצְמוֹתָי מִיּוֹם עַד־לַיְלָה תַּשְׁלִימֵֽנִי׃

וימרחו. ויחליקוה לדבקה על השחין ונס בתוך נס היה שאף בשר חי שנותנין עליו דבלה מסריח אלא הקב"ה נותן דבר המחבל לתוך דבר המתחבל ומרפא:
