קוֹל קוֹרֵא בַּמִּדְבָּר פַּנּוּ דֶּרֶךְ יְהֹוָה יַשְּׁרוּ בָּעֲרָבָה מְסִלָּה לֵאלֹהֵֽינוּ׃
A voice cries, Prepare in the wilderness the way of the Lord, make straight in the desert a highway for our God.

פנו דרך ה'. דרך ירושלים לשוב גליותיה לתוכה:
כׇּל־גֶּיא יִנָּשֵׂא וְכׇל־הַר וְגִבְעָה יִשְׁפָּלוּ וְהָיָה הֶֽעָקֹב לְמִישׁוֹר וְהָרְכָסִים לְבִקְעָֽה׃
Every valley shall be exalted, and every mountain and hill shall be made low: and the crooked shall be made straight, and the rough places plain:

כל גיא ינשא. וההר ישפל הרי דרך חלקה ושוה ונוחה:
והרכסים. הרים הסמוכים זה לזה ומתוך סמיכתן מורד שביניהם זקוף ואינו מעוקם שיהא נוח לירד ולעלות (הרכסים מתורגם גדודיו ל' גובה כמו גדודי הנהר):
הרכסים. כמו וירכסו את החשן (שמות כ״ח:כ״ח):
לבקעה. קנפנייא בלע"ז ארץ חלקה ושוה:
וְנִגְלָה כְּבוֹד יְהֹוָה וְרָאוּ כׇל־בָּשָׂר יַחְדָּו כִּי פִּי יְהֹוָה דִּבֵּֽר׃ {פ}
and the glory of the Lord shall be revealed, and all flesh shall see it together: for the mouth of the Lord has spoken it.
