אַל־תִּֽירְאִי תּוֹלַעַת יַעֲקֹב מְתֵי יִשְׂרָאֵל אֲנִי עֲזַרְתִּיךְ נְאֻם־יְהֹוָה וְגֹאֲלֵךְ קְדוֹשׁ יִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃
Fear not, thou worm Ya῾aqov, O men of Yisra᾽el; I will help thee, says the Lord, and thy redeemer, the Holy One of Yisra᾽el.

מתי ישראל. מספר ישראל:
הִנֵּה שַׂמְתִּיךְ לְמוֹרַג חָרוּץ חָדָשׁ בַּעַל פִּיפִיּוֹת תָּדוּשׁ הָרִים וְתָדֹק וּגְבָעוֹת כַּמֹּץ תָּשִֽׂים׃
Behold, I will make of thee a new sharp threshing instrument having teeth: thou shalt thresh the mountains, and beat them small, and shalt make the hills as chaff.

למורג חרוץ. כלי הוא של עץ וכבד ועשוי חריצים חריצים כעין כלי נפחים של ברזל שקורין לימ"א בלע"ז וגוררין על הקשין של שבלין ומחתכן עד שנעשו תבן דק:
חדש. כשהוא חדש עד שלא הוחלקו פיות חריציו הוא חותך הרבה אבל משנתישן הוחלקו פיות חריציו:
בעל פיפיות. הם חידודי החריצין:
תדוש הרים. מלכים ושרים:
תִּזְרֵם וְרוּחַ תִּשָּׂאֵם וּסְעָרָה תָּפִיץ אוֹתָם וְאַתָּה תָּגִיל בַּֽיהֹוָה בִּקְדוֹשׁ יִשְׂרָאֵל תִּתְהַלָּֽל׃ {ס}
Thou shalt fan them, and the wind shall carry them away, and the storm wind shall scatter them: and thou shalt rejoice in the Lord, and shalt glory in the Holy One of Yisra᾽el.

תזרם. תזרה אותם כבמזרה לרוח:
ורוח תשאם. מאליהם לגיהנם:
תולעת יעקב. משפחת יעקב החלשה כתולעת שאין לה גבורה אלא בפיה, תולעת וירמונ"א בלע"ז:
