וְאַתָּה יִשְׂרָאֵל עַבְדִּי יַעֲקֹב אֲשֶׁר בְּחַרְתִּיךָ זֶרַע אַבְרָהָם אֹהֲבִֽי׃
But thou, Yisra᾽el, art my servant, Ya῾aqov whom I have chosen, the seed of Avraham my friend.

(ה) ראו איים. אותה מלחמ' וייראו שם נתיירא מאברהם פן יאמר לו העמדת רשעים אלו בעולם ואברהם נתיירא משם לפי שהרג את בני עילם שהם משם:
איים. כשם שאיי הים מסויימין בעולם כך אברהם ושם היו מסויימין בעולם:
איש את רעהו יעזורו. זה עוזר את זה בברכו' ברוך אברם (בראשית י״ד:כ׳) וזה עוזר את זה במתנות (שם) ויתן לו מעשר מכל:
ויחזק חרש. זה שם שהיה נפח לעשות מסמרות ובריחים לתבה:
את צורף. זה אברהם שהוא צורף את הבריות לקרבן אל השכינה:
את הולם פעם. זה אברהם שהלם כל המלכים האלה פעם אחת:
אומר לדבק טוב הוא. טוב לידבק באלוה של זה:
ויחזקהו. שם לאברה' להיו' דבק בהקב"ה ולא ימוט:
ואתה ישראל עבדי. אברהם שלא היה מזרע צדיקים עשיתי לו כל זאת ואתה ישראל עבדי. הקנוי לי משני אבות:
זרע אברהם אוהבי. שלא הכירני מתוך תוכחה ולימוד אבותיו אלא מתוך אהבה:
אֲשֶׁר הֶחֱזַקְתִּיךָ מִקְצוֹת הָאָרֶץ וּמֵאֲצִילֶיהָ קְרָאתִיךָ וָאֹמַר לְךָ עַבְדִּי־אַתָּה בְּחַרְתִּיךָ וְלֹא מְאַסְתִּֽיךָ׃
Thou whom I have taken from the ends of the earth, and called thee from its farthest corners, and said to thee, Thou art my servant; I have chosen thee, and not cast thee away.

אשר החזקתיך. לקחתיך לחלקי כמו (שמות ד׳:ד׳) וישלח ידו ויחזק בו:
מקצות הארץ. משאר העכו"ם:
ומאציליה. מן הגדולים שבהן:
קראתיך. בשם לחלקי בני בכורי ישראל:
ולא מאסתיך. כזה שנאמר בו (מלאכי א) שנאתי:
אַל־תִּירָא כִּי עִמְּךָ־אָנִי אַל־תִּשְׁתָּע כִּֽי־אֲנִי אֱלֹהֶיךָ אִמַּצְתִּיךָ אַף־עֲזַרְתִּיךָ אַף־תְּמַכְתִּיךָ בִּימִין צִדְקִֽי׃
Fear not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee; indeed, I will help thee; moreover, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness.

אל תשתע. אל ימס לבך להיות כשעוה זו וזה הכלל כל תיבה שתחל' יסודה שי"ן כשבא לדבר בל' מתפעל התפעל או יתפעל התי"ו חולקת ונכנסת בין שתי אותיות שרשי התיבה כמו (ישעיה כט) וישתומם (מיכה ז) וישתמר חוקות עמרי (ש"א א) תשתכרין (איוב ל) תשתפך נפשי:
הֵן יֵבֹשׁוּ וְיִכָּלְמוּ כֹּל הַנֶּחֱרִים בָּךְ יִהְיוּ כְאַיִן וְיֹאבְדוּ אַנְשֵׁי רִיבֶֽךָ׃
Behold, all they that were incensed against thee shall be ashamed and confounded: they shall be as nothing; and they that strive with thee shall perish.

Thou shalt seek them, and shalt not find them, those that contend with thee: they that war against thee shall be as nothing, and as a thing of nought.
