הָרִֽאשֹׁנוֹת מֵאָז הִגַּדְתִּי וּמִפִּי יָצְאוּ וְאַשְׁמִיעֵם פִּתְאֹם עָשִׂיתִי וַתָּבֹֽאנָה׃
I have declared the former things from the beginning; and they went out of my mouth, and I reported them; I did them suddenly, and they came to pass.

מאז הגדתי. מטרם היותם ופתאום עשיתים:
ותבאנה. כמו שהגדתי תחלה על פי נביאי:
מִדַּעְתִּי כִּי קָשֶׁה אָתָּה וְגִיד בַּרְזֶל עׇרְפֶּךָ וּמִצְחֲךָ נְחוּשָֽׁה׃
Because I know that thou art obstinate, and thy neck is an iron sinew, and thy forehead brass;

מדעתי כי קשה אתה. מאשר ידעתי אותך כי קשה אתה ואם יבא הנס ולא הגדתיו תחלה תאמר עצבי עשאם ולא מאת הקב"ה הם לפיכך אגיד לך מאז בטר' תבא וגו', מדעתי מ"ם זו משמשת נתינת טעם כמו לפי שידעתי ודוגמתו כי מאהבת ה' אתכם ומשמרו את השבועה (דברים ז׳:ח׳):
וָאַגִּיד לְךָ מֵאָז בְּטֶרֶם תָּבוֹא הִשְׁמַעְתִּיךָ פֶּן־תֹּאמַר עׇצְבִּי עָשָׂם וּפִסְלִי וְנִסְכִּי צִוָּֽם׃

שָׁמַעְתָּֽ חֲזֵה כֻּלָּהּ וְאַתֶּם הֲלוֹא תַגִּידוּ הִשְׁמַעְתִּיךָ חֲדָשׁוֹת מֵעַתָּה וּנְצֻרוֹת וְלֹא יְדַעְתָּֽם׃

שמעת חזה כלה. שמעת הראשונות שהגדתי ראה שבאו כולם:
ואתם הלוא תגידו. ותעידוני אשר לא נפל דבר:
השמעתיך חדשות מעתה. עתה אני חוזר ומשמיעכם חדשות שהם חדשות לכם ולפני הם גלויות מעולם:
ונצורות. ושמורות באוצרותי ואתה לא ידעתם:
עַתָּה נִבְרְאוּ וְלֹא מֵאָז וְלִפְנֵי־יוֹם וְלֹא שְׁמַעְתָּם פֶּן־תֹּאמַר הִנֵּה יְדַעְתִּֽין׃

עתה. נבראו ולא מאז הם:

גַּם לֹֽא־שָׁמַעְתָּ גַּם לֹא יָדַעְתָּ גַּם מֵאָז לֹא־פִתְּחָה אׇזְנֶךָ כִּי יָדַעְתִּי בָּגוֹד תִּבְגּוֹד וּפֹשֵׁעַ מִבֶּטֶן קֹרָא לָֽךְ׃
Thou didst neither hear nor know; nor from old was thy ear opened: for I knew that thou wouldst deal very treacherously, and wast called a transgressor from birth.

גם לא שמעת וגו'. ת"י אף לא שמעת למילי נבייא אף לא קבילתא אולפן אורייתא אף לפתגמי ברכן ולווטין קיימי דאקימית עמכון בחורב לא ארכינתא אודנך:
כי ידעתי בגוד תבגוד. כשירדתי להצילך מיד מצרים גלוי היה לפני שסופך לבגוד ואעפ"כ שמרתי שבועות אבות וזהו שנא' ראה ראיתי את עני עמי (שמות ג׳:ז׳) שתי ראיות רואה אני שסופן לבגוד ומכל מקום ראיתי את עני עמי כך דרש ר' תנחומא:
ופושע מבטן. משהיית' במצרים כמו שמפורש (ביחזקאל כ׳:ה׳) ואודע להם בארץ מצרים וגו' ואומר אליהם וגו':
לְמַעַן שְׁמִי אַאֲרִיךְ אַפִּי וּתְהִלָּתִי אֶחֱטׇם־לָךְ לְבִלְתִּי הַכְרִיתֶֽךָ׃
For my name’s sake will I defer my anger, and for my praise will I refrain for thee, that I cut thee not off.

אאריך אפי. לשון הוה הוא:
ותהלתי אחטם לך. וזאת היא תהלתי אשר אחטם לך ל' חוטם אסתו' חוטמי מצאת עשן נחירי ומקצוף עליך שהכועס יוצא עשן מנחיריו כמה דאת אמר עלה עשן באפו (תהילים י״ח:ט׳) וכן כל חרון אף הוא לשון חימום החוטם חרה אפי וכן ועצמי חרה מני חורב (איוב ל׳:ל׳) נחר חוטמי מרוב חימום:
הִנֵּה צְרַפְתִּיךָ וְלֹא בְכָסֶף בְּחַרְתִּיךָ בְּכוּר עֹֽנִי׃

ולא בכסף. ולא ע"י אור של גיהנם כצורף הכסף באור:
בחרתיך. בחרתי לך כור עוני כנגד אור כור הוא כלי שמתיכין בו כסף וזהב:
לְמַעֲנִי לְמַעֲנִי אֶעֱשֶׂה כִּי אֵיךְ יֵחָל וּכְבוֹדִי לְאַחֵר לֹא־אֶתֵּֽן׃ {פ}
