צֹפָו עִוְרִים כֻּלָּם לֹא יָדָעוּ כֻּלָּם כְּלָבִים אִלְּמִים לֹא יוּכְלוּ לִנְבֹּחַ הֹזִים שֹֽׁכְבִים אֹהֲבֵי לָנֽוּם׃
His watchmen are all blind: they are ignorant, they are all dumb dogs, they cannot bark; dreaming, lying down, loving to slumber.

הוזים שוכבים. פי' דונש נרדמים שוכבין ויונתן תירגם ניימין שכבין ואין לו דמיון:
וְהַכְּלָבִים עַזֵּי־נֶפֶשׁ לֹא יָֽדְעוּ שׇׂבְעָה וְהֵמָּה רֹעִים לֹא יָדְעוּ הָבִין כֻּלָּם לְדַרְכָּם פָּנוּ אִישׁ לְבִצְעוֹ מִקָּצֵֽהוּ׃

והכלבים עזי נפש. רוצים למלאות כריסם (אינגר"ש בלע"ז):
והמה רועים. כמו שהכלבים לא ידעו שבעה כן הרועים לא ידעו הבין מה יהיה באחרית הימים:
כולם. לדרך הנייתם פנו איש לבצעו לגזול את שאר העם שהם ממונים עליהם:
מקצהו. כמו (בראשית י״ט:ד׳) כל העם מקצה מקצה מניינם ועד קצהו כולם נוהגי' כן:
אֵתָיוּ אֶקְחָה־יַיִן וְנִסְבְּאָה שֵׁכָר וְהָיָה כָזֶה יוֹם מָחָר גָּדוֹל יֶתֶר מְאֹֽד׃
Come, say they, I will fetch wine, and we will fill ourselves with strong drink; and to morrow shall be as this day, and much more abundant.

אתיו אקחה יין. כך היו אומרים זה לזה:
והיה כזה יום מחר. במאכל ובמשתה:
הַצַּדִּיק אָבָד וְאֵין אִישׁ שָׂם עַל־לֵב וְאַנְשֵׁי־חֶסֶד נֶאֱסָפִים בְּאֵין מֵבִין כִּֽי־מִפְּנֵי הָרָעָה נֶאֱסַף הַצַּדִּֽיק׃

הצדיק אבד. כגון יאשיהו:
ואין איש שם על לב. למה נסתלק:
באין מבין. אין בנותרים מבין מה ראה הקב"ה לסלקו:
כי מפני הרעה. העתידה לבא אל הדור נאסף הצדיק:
יָבוֹא שָׁלוֹם יָנוּחוּ עַל־מִשְׁכְּבוֹתָם הֹלֵךְ נְכֹחֽוֹ׃ {ס}

יבא שלום. כי כן אמר הקב"ה יבא הצדיק הזה אל אבותיו בשלום ואל יראה ברעה:
ינוחו על משכבותם. בהיות הרעה זה שהיה הולך נכוחו ביושרו כמו עשות נכוחה (עמוס ג):
צופיו עורים כולם. לפי שאמר דרשו ה' וכל הענין והם אינם שומעי' חוזר ואומר הנה הנביאים צועקים להם ומכריזים על התשובה ותיטיב להם והרי פרנסיהם כעורים כולם ואינם רואין את הנולדות כצופה המופקד לראות את החרב בא להזהיר את העם והוא עור מלראות את החרב באה ואלם מלהזהיר את העם ככלב שמינוהו לשמור הבית והוא אלם מלבנות כך פרנסי ישראל אינם מזהירין אותם לחזור למוטב:
