שִׁמְעוּ דְּבַר־יְהֹוָה הַחֲרֵדִים אֶל־דְּבָרוֹ אָמְרוּ אֲחֵיכֶם שֹׂנְאֵיכֶם מְנַדֵּיכֶם לְמַעַן שְׁמִי יִכְבַּד יְהֹוָה וְנִרְאֶה בְשִׂמְחַתְכֶם וְהֵם יֵבֹֽשׁוּ׃
Hear the word of the Lord, you that tremble at his word; Your brethren that hated you, that cast you out for my name’s sake, have said, Let the Lord be glorified: that we may see your joy; but they shall be ashamed.

אמרו אחיכם. פושעי ישראל הנזכרים למעלה, ד"א אמרו אחיכם מנדיכם, אשר אמרו לכם סורו טמא (איכה ד):
שנאיכם מנדיכם. האומרים קרב אליך אל תגש בי (לעיל סה) למען שמי יכבד ה'. בגדולתנו הקב"ה מתכבד שאנו קרובים לו יותר מכם:
ונראה בשמחתכם והם יבושו. הנביא אומר אבל לא כן הוא כדבריהם כי בשמחתכם נראה והם יבושו למה כי קול שאון שלהם בא לפני הקב"ה ממה שעשו בעירו וקול יוצא מהיכלו ומקטרג על מחריביו ואחרי כן קול ה' משלם גמול לאויביו:
קוֹל שָׁאוֹן מֵעִיר קוֹל מֵהֵיכָל קוֹל יְהֹוָה מְשַׁלֵּם גְּמוּל לְאֹיְבָֽיו׃
A voice of tumult from the city, a voice from the temple, the voice of the Lord rendering recompense to his enemies.

בְּטֶרֶם תָּחִיל יָלָדָה בְּטֶרֶם יָבוֹא חֵבֶל לָהּ וְהִמְלִיטָה זָכָֽר׃
Before she travailed, she brought forth; before her pain came, she was delivered of a man child.

בטרם תחיל. ציון חיל היולדת ילדה את בניה כלומר יתקבצו בניה לתוכה אשר הית' שוממה מהם ושכולה והרי הוא כאילו ילדתן עכשיו בלא חבלי יולדה כי כל העכו"ם יביאום לתוכה:
והמליטה זכר. כל יציאת דבר בלוע קרוי המלטה והמליטה אישקמוציי"ר בלעז:
מִֽי־שָׁמַע כָּזֹאת מִי רָאָה כָּאֵלֶּה הֲיוּחַל אֶרֶץ בְּיוֹם אֶחָד אִם־יִוָּלֵֽד־גּוֹי פַּעַם אֶחָת כִּי־חָלָה גַּם־יָלְדָה צִיּוֹן אֶת־בָּנֶֽיהָ׃
Who has heard of such a thing? who has seen such things? Shall the earth be made to bring forth in one day? or shall a nation be born in one moment? for as soon as Żiyyon travailed, she brought forth her children.

היוחל ארץ ביום אחד. היבוא חיל ליולדת לילד מלא ארץ בנים ביום אחד:
הַאֲנִי אַשְׁבִּיר וְלֹא אוֹלִיד יֹאמַר יְהֹוָה אִם־אֲנִי הַמּוֹלִיד וְעָצַרְתִּי אָמַר אֱלֹהָֽיִךְ׃ {ס}
Shall I bring to the birth, and not cause to bring forth? says the Lord: or shall I who cause to bring forth, thereupon shut the womb? says thy God.

האני אשביר ולא אוליד. האני אביא את האשה על המשבר ולא אפתח רחמה להוציא עוברה כלומר שמא אתחיל בדבר ולא אוכל לגמור והלא אני המוליד את כל היולדות ועכשיו שמא עצרתי בתמיה:
החרדים אל דברו. הצדיקים הממהרים בחרדה להתקרב אל דבריו:
