וַיְהִי דְבַר־יְהֹוָה ׀ אֵלַי שֵׁנִית לֵאמֹר מָה אַתָּה רֹאֶה וָאֹמַר סִיר נָפוּחַ אֲנִי רֹאֶה וּפָנָיו מִפְּנֵי צָפֽוֹנָה׃
And the word of the Lord came to me a second time, saying, What dost thou see? And I said, I see a boiling pot; and its face is from the north.

ופניו. רתיחותיו אשישאונדי"ש בלעז:
וַיֹּאמֶר יְהֹוָה אֵלָי מִצָּפוֹן תִּפָּתַח הָרָעָה עַל כׇּל־יֹשְׁבֵי הָאָֽרֶץ׃
Then the Lord said to me, Out of the north the evil shall break forth upon all the inhabitants of the land.

מצפון תפתח הרעה. בבל לצפונה של ארץ ישראל היא:
כִּי ׀ הִנְנִי קֹרֵא לְכׇֽל־מִשְׁפְּחוֹת מַמְלְכוֹת צָפוֹנָה נְאֻם־יְהֹוָה וּבָאוּ וְֽנָתְנוּ אִישׁ כִּסְאוֹ פֶּתַח ׀ שַׁעֲרֵי יְרוּשָׁלַ͏ִם וְעַל כׇּל־חוֹמֹתֶיהָ סָבִיב וְעַל כׇּל־עָרֵי יְהוּדָֽה׃
For, lo, I will call all the families of the kingdoms of the north, says the Lord; and they shall come, and they shall set everyone his throne at the entrance of the gates of Yerushalayim, and against all its walls round about, and against all the cities of Yehuda.

וְדִבַּרְתִּי מִשְׁפָּטַי אוֹתָם עַל כׇּל־רָעָתָם אֲשֶׁר עֲזָבוּנִי וַֽיְקַטְּרוּ לֵאלֹהִים אֲחֵרִים וַיִּֽשְׁתַּחֲווּ לְמַעֲשֵׂי יְדֵיהֶֽם׃
And I will utter my judgments against them regarding all their wickedness, in that they have forsaken me, and have burned incense to other gods, and worshipped the works of their own hands.

ודברתי משפטי אותם. אתווכח עמם עם יהודה וירושלים:
וְאַתָּה תֶּאְזֹר מׇתְנֶיךָ וְקַמְתָּ וְדִבַּרְתָּ אֲלֵיהֶם אֵת כׇּל־אֲשֶׁר אָנֹכִי אֲצַוֶּךָּ אַל־תֵּחַת מִפְּנֵיהֶם פֶּֽן־אֲחִתְּךָ לִפְנֵיהֶֽם׃

תאזור מתניך. ל' זירוז כאיש חיל:
וַאֲנִי הִנֵּה נְתַתִּיךָ הַיּוֹם לְעִיר מִבְצָר וּלְעַמּוּד בַּרְזֶל וּלְחֹמוֹת נְחֹשֶׁת עַל־כׇּל־הָאָרֶץ לְמַלְכֵי יְהוּדָה לְשָׂרֶיהָ לְכֹהֲנֶיהָ וּלְעַם הָאָֽרֶץ׃
For, behold, I have made thee this day a fortified city, and an iron pillar, and walls of brass against the whole land, against the kings of Yehuda, against its princes, against its priests, and against the people of the land.

למלכי יהודה. כנגד מלכי יהודה:
וְנִלְחֲמוּ אֵלֶיךָ וְלֹא־יוּכְלוּ לָךְ כִּי־אִתְּךָ אֲנִי נְאֻם־יְהֹוָה לְהַצִּילֶֽךָ׃ {פ}
