הוֹי בֹּנֶה בֵיתוֹ בְּֽלֹא־צֶדֶק וַעֲלִיּוֹתָיו בְּלֹא מִשְׁפָּט בְּרֵעֵהוּ יַעֲבֹד חִנָּם וּפֹעֲלוֹ לֹא יִתֶּן־לֽוֹ׃
Woe to him that builds his house by unrighteousness, and his chambers by injustice; that uses his neighbour’s service without wages, and gives him not for his hire;

הָאֹמֵר אֶבְנֶה־לִּי בֵּית מִדּוֹת וַעֲלִיּוֹת מְרֻוָּחִים וְקָרַֽע לוֹ חַלּוֹנָי וְסָפוּן בָּאָרֶז וּמָשׁוֹחַ בַּשָּׁשַֽׁר׃
that says, I will build me a wide house with large upper chambers, and he cuts him out windows; and it is covered with rafters of cedar, and painted with vermilion.

בית מדות. בית גדול כמו אנשי מדות (במדבר י״ג:ל״ב) שיש בהן מה למדוד:
וקרע לו. והרחיב לו, אחרים הגיהו וקרע לו ופתח לו וכן ותקרעי בפוך (לעיל יד) קרעת שמים ירדת (ישעיהו ס״ג:י״ט) כולן לשון פתיחה:
וספון בארז. מסכך הגג בארזים:
ומשוח בששר. ומצייר בסממנים, ת"י בששר צבע הוא ממין הציורים, ל"א ומשוח בששר כמו חוט המשחה אליינאנ"ט אנשינופל"א בלעז:
הֲתִֽמְלֹךְ כִּי אַתָּה מְתַחֲרֶה בָאָרֶז אָבִיךָ הֲלוֹא אָכַל וְשָׁתָה וְעָשָׂה מִשְׁפָּט וּצְדָקָה אָז טוֹב לֽוֹ׃

התמלוך. התאריך ימים על שאתה מתחרה להכביד על ממשלתך להודיע שאתה מלך:
אביך. יאשיהו שהתנהג בענוה הלא אכל ושתה וראה טוב כל ימי חייו:
דָּן דִּין־עָנִי וְאֶבְיוֹן אָז טוֹב הֲלוֹא־הִיא הַדַּעַת אֹתִי נְאֻם־יְהֹוָֽה׃

על בצעך. לגזול ממון:
המרוצה. ריצוץ דלים ועושק יוכיח עליו כי עשוק ורצוץ תמיד סמוכין בלשון מקרא וכן את מי עשקתי ואת מי רצותי (שמואל א י״ב:ג׳):
הוי בונה ביתו. על יהויקים הוא אומר שהוא היה רשע וסוף הענין מוכיח לכן כה אמר ה' אל יהויקים וגו':
